DD so sorry to hear this, its so grossly unfair! I used to work in hotels and sometimes there are people who enjoy themselves by creating havoc and unpleasantness, Thankfully in my day it was letters and not public. It was the sense of injustice that always got me, perhaps in you reply you could mention 'you were sorry that the temperature of France was not suitable for them' if they mentioned it in the review, it will give others an idea of the unreasonablness (is this a word?) of their review. It is definitly good to ventimage

DD - I think some people simply delight in causing upset to others and there is no easy answer to people like that. Try to think of all the good reviews you've had, far outweighing the petty negativity of these imbeciles. The 'too hot' complaint kind of gives their game away...suggest perhaps they holiday in Greenland next time!!

Absolutely, and if they'd care to book again you'll remember to move the house nearer to the town, just for them image

DD - sorry to hear about these horrible customers. Your worry isn't trifling or unimportant - this is your livelihood, business reputation and personal feelings at stake.

If it's any consolation, we frequently use sites such as Trip Advisor and can spot the rogue 'pain in the butt' reviewers a mile off and just disregard their comments. If you have loads of rave reviews anybody with any sense will realise it's the reviewer who has a problem - not you.

Still, it's not a nice thing to have happen - a bit like over hearing an unpleasant comment about oneself. I suggest you post a brief, restrained, polite response saying you are sorry that the reviewer did not enjoy their stay because they did not realise how hot it would be at that time of year or know the exact location of your house - but you are pleased to see that the vast majority of your guests seem to really enjoy their time with you.

Try looking on notalwaysright.com  DD. It might make you laugh a little.

It's my daughter's favourite site for looking at the stupid things customers of all types say and do - and she makes pizzas for Asda so she deals with plenty of those types. image

  • Hugs DD I understand we can all say dont take it to heart but*** it's not easy. We ran an hotel for over 20 years and only had a handful of those a*******s but they were the ones that left their mark. In the latter years it didn't come easier but I got stronger and have been known to stand my ground (I was the one who had to deal with them) but try to spend your time thinking of the guests who appreciate your hard work and don't take advantage of you kindness.  B****Y f*** book and reviews really can't take them  written mostly by saddies that could not have had the decency to speak to you in person .Chin up just remember their name and cheer they won't be back because you don't want them !!!!

I've been to DD's and the pool is spotless and the rooms are beautiful and the garden is lovely. DD is very bubbly and welcoming and is a good cook.

We went to a B&B in Dartmouth, they had had a dreadful review but we took no notice because the other reviews were good. It was lovely. The review said the bathroom was a cupboard, but we had that room and the bathroom was normal size with a bath. The review was written a month after they said they went so I wondered if they had mistaken that B&B with another.

Some people just enjoy being unpleasant, don't take any notice - hard I know. When I did B&B my first guests were a lovely elderly couple. He said "your guests won't always be nice, sometimes you will have difficult people and you will have to learn to accept and not let it bother you". Luckily most guests were nice, but I did have one awful French family.

I'll write a glowing review too. If you feel you have to reply to the review then I think Dove's reply is a good one!

I've read the reviews, all excellent with all companies except for that one with one of the booking companies, not Trip Adviser. It's so obviously rubbish that I wouldn't bother replying. It's by a French person. Oh dear, I know a French lady called Beatrice! She runs a B&B! But she's friendly and not obsessed with housework.

Thank you all so much for the support and encouragement, you really all are so kind and when I see so many people saying the same thing I realise that the general public seeing the review will think the same. image

This morning all the guests leaving said how nice it was, one set saying they would return next year and the others saying they would be happy to recommend us, so we can't be that bad can we. image

Thank you also to those offering to write a review but I would not like to be deceitful if you haven't seen it. image

The most important thing is I feel much better this morning so thank you all - now I just need to get out and do some gardening. image
