Verdun one national dementia charity used to refer to people with dementia as sufferers at one AGM a gent stood up and stated that his wife wasn't suffering he was, the term is no longer used. Love to you & Mum.
Yesterday my sister got to the ward, to find dad had been given a roast chicken dinner. Apparently he had ordered it. As he never did eat chicken, i find that unlikely. It seems that the agency staff who are on the wards for the weekend do not know he has liquids only. My sister lost her temper with them, and then went home to calm down. I went at teatime and the message seems to have got through. However those nurses are not on today, so I took a red whiteboard marker and wrote instructions in large letters at the back of his bed. I wonder what today will bring.
When Pa was last on a ward (last Christmas ) he had "Thickened liquids and puréed foods only. Otherwise NIL by mouth." at the head of his bed. Any ordinary food or drink could kill him.

I'm constantly amazed at how these things differ - I would have thought it helpful to have national standards applicable across the country. Things seem to differ in so may public services from county to county and then there is surprise when things slip through the net or fall between the floorboards so to speak.
When I'm in charge things will be different - but I don't know when it's going to be my turn

I find thats the saddest part too. When I think of my mum when she was young, they really struggled, moneywise but I had all I needed.
Being an only child, she spent a lot of time playing with me, colouring, quizes, cooking.
To see her now, just sitting, looking very old is a lot to take in.
My dad seems very fit, she has him running around as well and he has a new lease of life!
He will be 91 next birthday, but so in control.
Verdun - glad the home is improving things
Lyn ((hugs))

Oh! Fidget - that's awful!!! Think that Complaints Procedure has to be activated - a chronology of events is the best way to start.
