Hi BM & all, sorry I'm a bit late returning to this thread. To answer your questions BM, we've been here 16 months and this is my first season growing veg here so very much a learning curve regards the difference in the seasons and growing conditions. We are in the Poitou Chatente so we don't have the climate of the med. our weather is not that dis-similar to the south east of England. More sunshine and a bit warmer, especially at the moment. It's been 35 degrees today ( hide in the house away from the heat weather ) and its still plus 20 at insomnia o'clock ! France is lovely but I do miss home. The cost of living is high and it can be hard to make a living. I think it's a great place if your retired with a good pension, but we are not. So growing veg is not just a nice thing to do but a necessity. I recently paid ???2.47 for 2 medium onions ( about ??2 ) and have seen cauliflower for sale for ???4 ! Shocking !

Do you visit France ? If so which regions ?

With regards photos of the garden, we've had very little time for it this summer ( we moved to this house last August ), we've got 5 acres and a lot of its a bit on the wild side as it was when we moved here. Great for the dogs to run around in though. When I get chance to do some taming I'll post some.

Not sure why the euro symbol and the pound sign are coming up as question marks ?

Hi lily3, lovely to hear all about your new home in France. I have never been yet just in my day dreams image Oh and a day trip when I was at school many moons ago image 5 acres! I bet your dogs are in heaven! I am shocked at the costs you quote! That is quite incredible! I hope your veg growing will be a success as you won't wanna be paying out those prices too often! Really looking forward to seeing your pics. please don't wait to do your taming as would be lovely to see before and afters image

    Hi Lily3

I have just got back from a week in France looking to make a move or initially part-time/by buying a holiday home to let, then  move to France.  the region we are looking at is the midi-pyrennes near St Girons Ariege area with a view to taking early retirement. Scary, big move and big country to find the right location.  Based int he north flying in is the only option.

Now, that you have been there for 16 months are you living the dream?  Settled, missing tescos and corination Street?  Mine is to relax, enjoy the mountain views from my french home, potter in the garden and a partime job would be good... french at school not being my strong point would would love to mix, and take up the language..  Having a gite to rent out to bring in some income was the thought. Or an occasional garden design job, if the french arenn't too shabby chic... with their gardens. Although very few brits holidaying or living in this area it would seem- so not sure how successful a holdiay let would be in the Ariege area of midi-pyrennes????

Are you living the dream you originally thought about or is it all so different?  I've noticed a few brits on this site are now in France- love to hear your reviews , lifestyle compared to UK, thoughts and reasons for moving there.  Good or bad love to hear.

Hi rose mummy, love dunelm and as you can probably guess a bit of a cushion addict but with the arrival of our son Beau image He does not allow me kitchen chair cushions!

I got some cute cushion covers from dunelm few weeks ago for the garden with bunting on but fast as I wash and put em on Beau runs up the garden with them and gets them all muddy again! What are yours like?

PS that's Beau on my profile pic in the woods when the bluebells were out image
