For anyone with eczema or psoriasis tendencies, as we have here, where many creams and potions make us worse rather than better, I would recommend Nelson's calendula cream which we get from the health food shops. It seems to cure all manner of ills very effectively.
I am also guilty of washing my hands too often and they start to dry out. I leave hand cream all over the house so I don't forget to use it! I use disposable plastic gloves for messy jobs/jobs with chemicals, they're very cheap from Poundland or household/hardware shops - or you can use plain old rubber gloves. Ecover do antibacterial wipes, I get them from Sainsbury's.
Speaking to a doctor or pharmacist definitely sounds like a good idea.
I keep a bottle of Avon Care "Glyverine hand and nail" at my desk. My future mother in law gave it to me as she didn't like it. For day to day use its very good (I apply three of four times a day - I have ecezema and to keep it at bay I have to near live in a bath of lotion) as it absorbs so quickly which is a major issue for me because no one wants to have to sit around waiting to smear it over their computer mouse.
I also make my own lotion using bees wax (if I can get it), coconut oil or shea butter or sometimes cocoa butter (the butters give a thicker texture) using lavender out the garden for a bit of luxury smell. Whether I take my time more enjoying the home made goodness so it has longer to sink in or not I'm not sure but it seems to be fantastic at help cuts / scratches / cracks heal and keeping my hands soft without huge price tags.
Put lots of muscle rub on last night, washed and creamed my hands after, but my right hand is peeling all over the palm and between the fingers, dosent hurt but looks disgusting!
Becky - keep an eye on those hands and please scuttle with all speed to a doctor if you start to think you're not in control. The last thing you want is to get an infection in the skin and some nasty scarring caused
