I trained as a radiographer then did ultrasound, now working in industry but about to go back to clinical work In  ultrasound love the job, but hate the politics and what is happening to the NHS. Hope I last till retirement

  • I was 30 years in banking, mostly on the coal face in branch. Early casualty of the banking crisis I took early retirement/redundancy in 2009 and now work as a tour guide at Britain‘s Oldest Bbrewer. No stress and I get paid to talk about free beer.

I have done admin work in a variety of different places - local council, gas terminal, pharmaceutical company, construction and a charity organisation.  Also worked for a short time as a classroom assistant and in a preschool nursery.  I gave up my last job because the politics of the place wasn't worth the small salary they paid.  Thankfully it was only 15 hrs a week and we were able to survive with my husbands wage.  So at present I'm not in paid employment, but I am definitely fully employed - house, garden, two daughters, and a batty dog!  Could do with earning again now, though, with the prospect of supporting our daughters through university.

Thanks Mikey!  Glad you have had a happy experience of being fostered.  I think (sadly) that the experiences of children in foster care are mixed, depending on the motives of the carers, but broadly speaking, there are a lot of good people out there, and we are lucky to be in a financial position to do the job properly.  It is a shame that all the people here who worked in public service seem to have issues with the politics and and the pressure and a degree of disillusion.
