As a new gardener I've been lurking on this site for a year or two and got some fantastic advice here. Thought it was time to show what I've managed to do since moving to this new house a couple of years ago but no prior gardening knowledge. The garden was a blank slate, basically patio, grass and piles of rubbish. I've now really got the bug and I'm chuffed with my first attempt at a border which seems to have really matured this year. Thanks to everyone for helping me along the way!

Are those pink ones Papavers Chicky, they are gorgeous image ? My first one has flowered today......I really need to upload my pics.

Pink ones are papavers - oriental poppies - they take a few years to get going in my patch (by which time i have lost the label - but think this one is MrsP?!?*#??) but then they are here to stay.  Like so many things in the garden, patience eventually pays offimage .... Wish i had more of it imageimageimage

The Papaver?  It is absolutely beautiful, I have Papaver Harlem which has flowered today, a deeper colour than I thought it would be but still lovely, I need to move it though at the end of summer, it's grown bigger than I though it would!

Love your pink poppies Chicky. Not phlox though - that's July. They are red Sweet Williams.

Your bed is lovely, Cardoon, looks mature already. No one would know you are new to gardening.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
