I didn't know you can eat the glowers, presumably make and female are the same as the cucumbers? What I don't understand (don't laugh as this sounds really thick!) is why do they need to pollinate if the female flowers already have the baby courgette? Is it to make the courgette grown if they don't pollinate will it just die?
You've got it - It's a bit like humans OL, we ladies have the main ingredients, but we need just that 'little certain something' from a chap to make things develop
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Ooh, I better go out then and make sure the males are doing their thing, hopefully nature will have taken care of it as we have loads of bees around at the moment.....but just to be on the safe side I'll go and do as my book tells me (well not actually my book but I'm working on that!!)
Its a wonder I ever managed to have 2 children really
OL I think you might be mistaking the stem at the back of the male flowers for a tiny thin courgette. I usually find the first few flowers are all male and females follow. Prove me wrong and have courgettes before me
Flowers are lovely fried in beer batter.
Done all weeding I'm doing today and rest of potting on all done. Critters have been chomping all over the place, even spare beans that are on patio 4' up on staging
Has anyone got any ideas for the poor chap who's sprayed his apple tree with weedkiller? I don't want to tell him that unless he washed it off before it dried I think it's done for

My gooseberry bush is rubbish MrsGarden, no flowers at all for the last 3 years, therefore no fruit
Anyway, courgettes......they all seem to be ladies, no man flowers.....what do I do now? It just proves men do have their uses, I'll get my coat
