Hi everyone. Busy cutting down brambles and feeding them through the shredder. Six bags of shredding later...  and I'm soaking in the bath

Nicki 7 has  sent me a message but I can't reply for some reason. Can you check that you are ok for receiving messages, or send me another message with an email address and I will reply.

Mrs G - RHS says your salvia is hardy in most of the UK image

It warmed up here eventually and I've been busy working on the new front border - first hoeing out the little weedlings that popped up after the last rain.  Then I planted a baby Rosa glauca image, Sedum spectabile 'Abbey Dore', Hemerocallis 'Summer Wine'

Helleborus orientalis 'Tutu' and Helleborus Niger 'Christmas Carol'  Then I manoeuvred the hose pipe along the terrace, down the garden path and around to the front of the house and gave the border a thorough soaking.

I've also been scrambling along the back of the Shady Bank, grabbing hold of wayward honeysuckle tendrils and encouraging them to stay on our side of the fence rather than head off next door and towards the marshes.

I've also discovered lots of little self-seeded Geranium phaeums - I shall pot some up, so if anyone wants one let me know. image

That wall and bed look great Chicky. OH needs extra kisses!

My OH has arrived in Stansted, he rang.

Didn't do middle bed, sorted greenhouse instead. Filled the 3 coldframes with babies so that I can plant the tomatoes in the GH. Watered them all and the pots around the house, having fed the roses in the pots for the second time. Tied up some climbing roses. Probably should have put that on the GW thread. Shall go out later and put the lids on the coldframes.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Chicky your new raised bed looks like its always been there, really impressed.

Dove and kef - did a bit of googling about plant while having lunch and before buying, as you do! Whatever RHS, label and google say I bet it doesn't apply in MY garden! Will have to get some cuttings for kef to return to me next year! image

Tomorrows party has diminished to just 7 of us so instead of BBQ I'll do roast dinner.image

Lovely wall Chicky, what a clever OH, you have.

Glad you had a lovely time Panda, hope all ok.

OL, take it your friend of a nieghbour isn't a friend, hope they are quiet tonight.

Busy have the radio or tv on so its not too quiet while OH is away. Take care.

Thanks all - rather pleased myself.  The motivation is to cut down on the area we need to repave when we finally get rid of the concreteimage.  Plants will need to be deer proof - even though it is right outside our front door, they still regard it as their smorgasbord. So a few shrubs for structure, ferns and hostas (its quite shady) and some of my acers.  Interested to hear that polemonium might be worth a try Lizzie.

Had a long list of things to do in the garden today - did none as i kept getting side tracked - but productive nonetheless.  Weeded another 1000 oak saplings (felt like it) and then carefully repotted the oak tree i am nurturing from a special acorn....... the irony did not escape meimage

Oooh, feet up image - tummy stuffed with roasted free range GOS pork , cider gravy, new potatoes and the last of the Swiss chard out of the garden, washed down with some Frome Valley Henney's dry cider image

Hope tomorrow's weather is at least as good as today's and hope tonight is frost free - I've taken the fleece off the figs!!!  According to the Met Office it won't go below 5C ....
