I had just dozed off again when my brother rang. He is on the way with the part (expansion tank) for next doors boiler. £200 for a spare part or £1000 for a new boiler... no contest really. While he's here, he can service mine as well. Only trouble is , that at 6ft 5in, he needs feeding all the time. He was the biggest. My grandad was big Jim...at around 6ft (born 1900). My mum had sisters at 5 ft 10., I have a sister at 5ft 10, and her eldest is 6ft 7 and still growing..... me, I'm the runt of the litter, only 5ft 6.
Sounds like my daughter's inlaws Fidget - her hub is 6ft 6 and a half, most of his brothers are around that height or a bit taller, his sisters are all around 5'11+ and his daughter is heading that way!!! Daughter had to stand on a very old gravestone (with permission from the vicar) for some of the wedding photos

Can anyone tell me when is the best time to move a crocus?
I've got what looks like a Violet Queen all on its own in an area that keeps getting trampled on but its so delicate and vibrant on an otherwise bare garden I'd quite like to move it or at least put it in a pot until the garden is established.
I think I am working out who the WUM is. Fortunately (s)he's on my blocked list which I can assure you all is a terribly useful thing as it means I don't get to see any of these silly thread views (one wonders how many views are computer programmes hunting the internet looking for certain words with the view to spam / install a virus on the post?) Or whatever the devil else is going on.
Thanks Edd for your advice. I just need to find a safer place now for it to grow happily. I'll be gutted but its just right in the squashing line of my partners big feet.
Oh what a beautiful morning I've had - I'm so happy I feel quite 'emotional' I've got all the currently bare bit of veg patch dug over and OH has done the edges where the tree roots are. There are buds on the Polka raspberry canes, and little primroses smiling around the ash trees. OH has weeded his garlic and we sat outside under the big ash tree for our morning coffee - I could smell the perfume from the violets! I've raked up most of the twigs that the storms brought down onto the lawn and I'm a happy gardener
My back is sore but I'll have a hot shower in a bit - that'll help that. I find it hard to pace myself in the garden as I used to be so fit and could dig and pitch bales and lay hedges all day - then I had a gap of 18 years without a proper garden - now I expect to be able to pick up where I left off, forgetting that I'm not as fit as I was But this morning, Happymarion was an inspiration, and I went back out there and just got on with things and got the jobs done that needed to be done. Thankyou Happymarion
OK Gg , I'll sort the plants out later in the week when I work out what I'm going to package them in - I'll let you know when I've posted them - is there someone at home all the time or does your postie know where to leave things?

Oh dear Edd - what does it say about us as gardeners that our lovely wee forum gets more spam for cake than gardening equipment?!
