I think there's a lot in that theory Verdun - after all, if you look at how we developed a large proportion of our food would've been protein (meat and seafood etc) and vegetables - carbs would only have been available at particular times of the year and until we became farmers and learned how to store grain we'd have had very little of it.
I know that when I've been successful in losing weight it's been on a high protein low carb diet.
But I had a grandmother who came from a family of village bakers and who taught me to bake

Thanks for your concerns. House is fine, perfectly safe from floods as we are 400 feet above town, but strong winds are worrying as we are a tadge exposed up here!
Very difficult travelling around as most roads in the valley are bad - I can't get to Henley,Cookham, or Reading without huge detours, and more houses are being swamped by water rising from the water-table, rather than overflow from rivers.
Best wishes from Marlow-under-Thames to Punkdoc and anyone else who is suffering from the weather!
Hello lovely forkers. Just catghing up, and your kind wishes are really appreciated.
So far so good. There is water everywhere, but not in the house. All day I have been convinced that it is only a matter of time, but the water level is still about 3 inches under the step which opens onto the porch. The water seems to flow round both sides of the house and down into the field below; where the water is now about 1 foot deep.
I know that the problem is not over yet, with more wrather to come, but things are looking more hopeful. I am expecting ducks to be paddling over the lawns soon, but hey, if a few plants die it will give me more planting opportunities.
Everybody stay safe, and thanks again for your kind wishes.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

Punkdoc, thinking of you and the rising water. Hope all is ok.
Verdun, have just seen more footage from Porthleven, which might be in your general area. You really are getting the stormy stuff there.
Hello Philippa
Stay indoors and put your feet up and eat cake - that's what gardeners are supposed to do in this weather

Hope everyone's homes are ok but suspect maybe not...?
