I went on a training course at Bush Boake Allen, once, on perfumes. We tested various smells being passed around. I wrinkled my nose at the jasmine base, and the man asked me what was the matter. I said it was like jasmine, but with something missing. When we went around the labs, he stuck another spill dipped in something under my nose. Now thats jasmine. The first was jasmine base, a synthetic used in cheap perfumes. The second was jasmine absolute at £500 a small bottle. I've always had expensive tastes (and smells)
My Philadelphus aureus is in flower. The virginal is still only in bud.
So true, I can' t stand chemically smells, my favourite essential oils are rose and neroli, the 2 most expensive! I can' t even wear the perfumes I used to work with and wear every day now, I have 2 Jo Malone ones that are more natural florals but mainly use flower water, a side product from the distillation of essential oils, unfortunately the fragrance doesn't last but they come in small bottles so are portable and are relatively cheap, guess which I have? Yep, rose and neroli ( orange blossom) !
Sweetpea where did you get those storage boxes? They're BEAUTIFUL!! Much envy from the cardboard box brigade over here!
I'm back on a computer. This time at home tidying up my CV. Partner being "helpful" suggested I had a rum and coke... not sure that and CV would have been a good idea
"To Whom It May Concern:
I am truly awesome and would make a terrific asset to your team.
P.S. I can hear a kettle boiling from a mile off and am well versed in the making of an engineers brew knowing the maximum timings for the optimal hobnob dunking to be 45 seconds with milk chocolate ones 57.3 seconds.
Yours,
Shall I start on Monday?"
Although at least I'd actually be writing my CV not looking for gardening ideas on here!!
Went down to East Lambrook Manor today Nr South Petherton, Somerset. Was very wet driving down but the rain stopped as we arrived at 11.30. A bit overcast as we went around the garden which was beautiful. Bought 3 plants in the plant centre there one of which was a Heuchera Purple Palace.
Went into the local pub for lunch which was very good then the sun came out so we made our way to Montacute House to see the gardens. Sadly it was shut as the BBC were there in force filming a series for BBC TV about Henry VIII to be aired in September. Gate stewards gave us a leaflet to claim a free Cream Tea courtesy of National Trust in any NT property. We decided to make our way to Tintinhull Garden which was open and an excellent garden to visit. Didn't use the Cream Tea voucher though as neither of us felt like Cream Tea today & the voucher is valid until November.
We took a number of photos so will post a few when I upload them to my PC.
Afternoon stayed sunny until we were about halfway home at about 4.00pm when it started to rain and it still is raining steadily (now 9.15pm)
fidget, no my roscoea haven't germinated yet. I still have ungerminated pots of this and that waiting hopefully. No real winter and my artificial winter only succeeded with a paeony and Aquilegia skinneri. If yours have just germinated maybe there's still hope. They all got drowned again today. An inch of rain before breakfast and the measuring pot so full by the end of the morning the rain was splashing out of the top.
Hi all, today at work started off pretty **** but this afternoon was a bit better. Ratbag is definitely not a morning person, not an afternoon one either but decidedly worse in the mornings. But I'm sure the day went better cos Panda came with me today so i had a smile in my pocket and Panda by my side
Headache gone thank you Panda. Hope you're day went well too.
Clari, if you want a new job, you can have mine.

Love the idea of umbrellas for your slug pubs Fidget
But I've got to go out in the wet to do it.
Not sure cocktail umbrellas (made of paper) are the way forward though . . . bit soggy?

What was it we were promised? A long hot summer?
