Verdun - it sounds as if you're going to get a storm like the one we had in East Anglia in '87 - gable ends of houses removed and large trees were uprooted, and some were sort of 'sucked' out of the ground in the vacuums created by some of the strongest gusts.
One dear lady in the coastal town where my Aged Ps live woke in her bed in the morning to find she was looking out onto the road as her house wall had been blown away!
We were so lucky that there were few serious injuries or worse, because the worst of the storm happened overnight when everyone was at home (I won't say asleep because I wasn't). So the message from our experience is - stay indoors!!!
Fill what flasks etc you have with hot water as you're likely to lose electricity and hold on to your hat. Tell Spike he'll have to cross his legs . Thinking of you all over there ((hugs))

((Hugs)) to everyone having bad weather, I'm thinking about you all. No update from Punkdoc this morning? I'm hoping he is just having a lie in after maybe having a bad night worrying about the rain/flooding and nothing worse
I can't believe more bad weather is forecast and high winds again up here, OH has gone to Scotland until Friday with work so slightly worried.
Thanks for all the well wishes for the paw-ly beagle, he is still whinging Dove, I am trying very hard to ignore him!!!
I hope all those meeting up today have a fab time and the weather stays as good as it can for you.......have fun
Hi Tracey He will take his lead (see that joke? ) from you - if you act just as normal he will think that this is normal and just get on with things .... eventually
Yes, hope Punkdoc hasn't been flooded out! And wonder how Pentillie is?

He did jump up for his breakfast, which he never does (i.e. jump up to out his paw and cast on the work top!) because he was so hungry, then ate it quicker than Daisy, which he also never does so I think a lot of the whinging was because he was hungry.
I hope Pentillie is ok too, isn't it more the allotment than the house that's worrying for Pentillie though? I know it's still a worry but hope the house is ok.
Come on Pentillie and Punkdoc, put our minds at rest
Glad your teeth are ok KEF and thanks for reminding me I need to phone the dentist to rebook the appointment I had to cancel
I'm looking forward to reminding each other to put sun cream on too. I always water in an evening at dusk as I thought that's what you were meant to do.....is that wrong, should I be doing it in the morning?
Water in the evening so that you lose less due to evaporation and it soaks down to the roots properly. However, the slugs and snails like the cool, dark damp conditions you create by watering in the evening
Water in the morning to avoid encouraging the marauding molluscs etc, but lose some of the water to evaporation and risk burning leaves if you get drops of water on them followed by strong sunlight (always water the soil not the plant!).

Morning all. The King Canute trick seems to have worked so far, the water level is about 3 inches bellow the back door. I am now rather more worried as the rain has just started to fall again.
Being a gardener is definetely a bonus at this time, I filled a dozen large compost bags with compost late last night and hopefully they will do the trick.
Now it is just sit and wait.
Sadly I shall have to miss the Snowdrops today, although I do wonder what good I am doing here.
Stay safe everyone and as my OH said before leaving for work, be careful, you can replace things, but not people. I will hope to be on later.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

Verdun thinking of you and all in your area, and hoping that it isn't as bad as forecast.
Tracey thoughts with you as well. Well thoughts with all who are worried.
Pdoc hope you managed to sleep. Archie & drains saga, I'll say no more about drains. Chicky & friends hugs.
I will be so glad when we are saying good morning and saying how hot it is, and what we need to water before the sun gets on things.
We have very strong winds due tonight, but not Verdun like.
Forgot to say my teeth are fine, as per Dentist. I knew I'd been somewhere yesterday
Stay safe all.

There's two theories Tracey:
Water in the evening so that you lose less due to evaporation and it soaks down to the roots properly. However, the slugs and snails like the cool, dark damp conditions you create by watering in the evening
Water in the morning to avoid encouraging the marauding molluscs etc, but lose some of the water to evaporation and risk burning leaves if you get drops of water on them followed by strong sunlight (always water the soil not the plant!).

Sad you can't come Pd. Another time. I understand you not wanting to leave your home in such circumstances. Fingers crossed for you.
Thinking of you Punkdoc - wish there was something practical we could do to help
