Verdun that is sad. Your dog will be fit & healthy all those runs on the Towans.image

Lily some of my plants also look unhappy, lavender, (sage & rosemary that I plant in garden and let flower)  dianthus and all my mediterranean ones appear to be drowning. They are in the free draining part!

Polyanthus do well here Verdun, look waterlogged but not eaten. Pom pom primulas have turned into a soggy mess of leaves.

No chance of pruning old apple tree, ground soaking and it is now showing new growth.

Can't open wooden GH door, swollen up and doubt I'd get it closed again. Been having to give it a kick the last few times I've closed it, which isn't good. Tomorrow should be dry & sun so will have to see about shaving some off it. Not been the same since terrible winds moved it. Badly in need of some ventilation in it.

Been thinking about Clari excavating for her pond, she'll need a pump to get water out before the liner goes in.

Think we can all say we have had enough rain!

Well, January has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster, exacerbated by the weather and the fact I can't get in the garden to do anything. It's made me realise, that although grass walkways look good in summer, they are no good in Winter. Even traipsing up to the greenhouse to check on it means squelching along in wellies, trying to pick a tussock of grass that is not under mud. The old house in the wood next door is being renovated. This morning I was woken by a chain saw, closely followed by a big digger demolishing the pigeon sheds. They are going to level it and plant grass seed. Good luck with that one, its totally surrounded by big trees.  My grass on that side is heavily infested with moss, it gets little light at this time of year , better after Easter, when the sun is higher in the sky.

I'm thinking a short holiday is in order, a long one is no good, I have seedlings and plants to monitor now, and no one I can trust to water for me.

Onion seeds to plant soon, then sweet peas. Most other things wait until early March.

    Have a good day everyone.

Fidget, glad to see you back and talking about your garden (hugs).

Holiday would be good I'm sure you need and would benefit from one, and on a selfish note we need more pictures on the Camera thread. image  I know they won't be of the Indian ocean creatures, but you take great pics.

Hi fidget, good to see you, hope you're ok.

Paddled down the garden earlier, my salix flamingo looked very sorry for itself,  not sure that will survive and also my hydranga paniculata looks a bit dead too.image Think the bulbs have drowned.image

Welcome back Fidget - holiday sounds an inspired ideaimage

We had a tiny patch of blue sky earlier too. Seemed a crime to waste it because of HW so went out for a long walk instead - quite lovely out there, if a little soggy underfoot.

Not sure if anyone remembers me getting all excited about the first daffodil in the grass verge outside my office ?? Well, it(or one of its close neighbours) is featured in the picture gallery on the Telegraph gardening section today ..... How weird is that ???

    Chicky...Fame you saw it first.

  • Hi all, took advantage of a dry afternoon (at last!) to catch-up with some shredding - got about 2 cubic metres worth of ivy, grapevine and hawthorn prunings through which have been piled up since Christmas!  So nice to be able to do something in the garden.image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
