BL - re The Devil's Horsemen - we saw them this last summer - they were filming the current Lloyds Bank advert on the beach up here in Norfolk - wonderful image

John Parker http://www.swingletree.co.uk/ lived near to us when I lived in Suffolk, and my children learned to ride at his stables - his horses are often used for film work and I can assure anyone who is worried, that horses used in film work are treated very very well and not harmed in any way.  image

Well folks, OH and I had a lovely day in Norwich - he has his Christmas present of jeans and jumper, I have a lovely woolly cape, and we had very good coffee and almond croissants in Carluccio's for breakfast and a delicious lunch in Jamie's Italian.

Now I'm flollopped on the sofa image   I'd better try to stay away long enough to find out what you've all been up to .........

Edd, aquilegias are hardy, but when they are still babies I give them some protection by putting them in a coldframe until spring, or, if you don't have a cold frame, against the wall of the house, but not in full sun.

Dove, glad you had a good day. We walked past Jamie's Italian but OH preferred the menu in the Café Rouge, French food. Thanks for the horsey link, not that far from our cottage.

Your day sounds great, Dove.  I love Norwich - our daughter did a degree in animation at Norwich School of Art, and we got to know the city then.  It took me ages before I stopped getting lost, because like a lot of mediaeval cities the roads don't intersect at right angles.  image  A tiresome journey from the north, though...

Anyone ever made clementine marmalade?  I've got lots of fruit left over from Christmas and OH doesn't eat clementines.  I don't think I can manage them on my own!  I imagine they'd need a fair proportion of lemons to improve the set?

Evening all. Re the horses, I didn't mean to start a conversation about them and I do understand that the shots in films are staged to look worse than reality, it's just my imagination that fills in the gaps.  I'm the same reading a novel about war horses etc. the old brain does the rest. I'm reminded about some of the Anne Perry WW1 books and my imagination takes over from there.

I haven't been outside yet this morning, but it seems to have stopped raining for the time being, and everything out there looks soggy. The river, which had become a bit of a trickle, has spread to its full width and is moving rather fast, so thats good. Needs an occasional clean out.  The Roos are taking advantage of munching wet grass all over the place.  Haven't set eyes on my little mother wallaby for a couple of weeks (not since I spotted a pair of colourful foxes hanging around not far from where she was sitting outside the bedroom window - and watching them). I guess she is still keeping her full size joey in the pouch for her to make a quick getaway, if needed.

Best wishes to all - especially those who have colds and sinus probs. image

Liriodendron - not sure if it would work for Clementines, but there is a recipe for Tangerine marmalade www.certo.co.uk.  (It's a liquid pectin, which is useful in all jam making, since the set is virtually guaranteed, and you don't have boil the fruit to death.  I've used it successfully for years).

I also googled Clementines and there are lots of recipes for marmalade and preserves using them.

    Hope this helps.

Ooh, Shrinking Violet - thanks very much!  I didn't think to look online.  I've used Certo for strawberry jam before now, and it does seem reasonably foolproof.  Come to that, my local SM sells preserving sugar especially for jams etc.

    Sounds like tomorrow's job... image
