The mother that Hosta mentioned should be sent on a holiday destination with no internet connection. I read about a device that can attach an IPad to a pushchair. Don't parents talk to their children anymore? My son and family are waiting for an engineer to mend their Sky dish and he said, ' It's awful we have to talk to each other', but I think they are enjoying the experience. My grandchildren can hardly believe that when I was young there was only one hour of children's television.
Thanks for all the comments about my puppy, Kizzy. She is supposed to be a standard labradoodle. My brother said it's really scarey as she could turn out to be an intelligent labrador. I can see why the advice is not to have a new pup at Christmas as she takes up so much time. I think the decorations and tree will have to be well out of her reach.
I've had a quick skim through your posts, but am ready for bed and too tired after my exiting day in the big smoke to answer specifically. Can't quite decide whether to leave the window open for the cooler temperature and put up with the full moon blinding us or to close up and pull the curtains closed and not gentle breeze. . Decisions, decisions!
I must say Hosta's comment about the mobile phones hit home with me. Walking through a big shopping mall today, we both noticed that many, many people seem to have something wrong with one of their ears because they all seemed to be holding a hand to their ears. Also, in the extra large hardware store which Hubby wandered through with his shopping list, we noticed that many of the staff seemed to have the same ear affliction. He couldn't find someone to direct him to the correct aisle. We aren't used to this, because there is no mobile reception in our valley.
anyway, night, night all. Will try to catch up properly tomorrow.
Pam, thinking about your Christmas tree and remembered a friend who, having young children, decided to put the tree in a playpen and the children had free range. Something similar could work for Kizzy. As a pup our doodle managed to pull a fairy light bulb from it's holder on the tree and a treat had to be supplied promptly to get her to drop it.
Bushman - Liri's cottage is just off the mainland on the west coast. Gorgeous views from there in both directions. I don't want to divulge more, but I'm sure she'll elaborate if you ask nicely.
Glad you're back ok Liri - we were worried about you with the vile weather and the ferries. They were on alert today again
Hosta - re those phones and people staring at them endlessly. It's sad isn't it? No wonder children behave so badly nowadays. Sloppy or non existent parenting
I'm going to disagree with you about Mr Kyle, Dove. I think it should be part of the school curriculum to show teenagers what happens to their lives if they don't behave themselves and get some qualifications....
That b****y squirrel has made a hole in the roof of the birdcage...I sense a new war to be waged.....it was only a matter of time
I will win.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Night night Pat. Don't let the flickies bite. My Scottish Gran used to say this.
That's a good idea Lesley. I've tried to do some Christmas ( are we allowed to mention the word yet) preparation before she came such as present wrapping. I bought a puppy crate but she cries when I put her in. She had vet's checks yesterday and the vet said to let her cry but easier said than done. We were told to do that with our children but I never could.
Hello folks! Back from tennis - one other newbie this week so that makes 6 of us all together at the moment - apparently there are two other regulars who are away at the moment. There's only the one court and we play 5 sets at a time so that works well with turn taking etc.
Better have a look and see what you've all been chatting about this morning
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Brrrrr! the sky in the northeast just went dark, then a muddy yellow, then there was a rainbow - now a huge black cloud has spread across the sky - just a little blue patch in the far west - and it's sleeting - I didn't think we were expecting sleet and snow again until the weekend

Thanks for kind comments re photos folks. It is indeed beautiful - when you can see it, which was certainly not always the case while I was there! And yes, as Fairy hinted, the cottage is on a little island in Loch Linnhe. With no TV, phone signal or internet access in the house... clearly not a suitable holiday destination for the family Hosta described. Might do them good though!
I now know why the squirrel who frequents my "squirrel-proof" bird feeders is so fat. It's managed to deform the inner mesh cylinder which holds the peanuts, and yank it close enough to the outer cylinder so it can chew through the mesh & get to the nuts.
Just discovered that the lovely Care Home where my Mum now is, has very recently been inspected by the CQC, who reckon it now "requires improvement". We still think it's a lovely place though...
Just found the photo of your puppy, Pam. Butter wouldn't melt!
Congrats on the blouse, Gertie! You might inspire me to get my sewing machine out. Maybe...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Have done very little this afternoon. Cold and wet outside. Have watched TV and done some ironing. Made OH his lunch, but I had salad as I'm trying to make an effort to lose a few pounds. Wish I could play tennis again, used to enjoy it but it gives me tendonitis and I have arthritis starting in the fingers. Doc told me to stop.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Hi fellow forkers, Miserable day here, been out to pay mums care bills and visit a friend.
Not got anything else planned for the day so expect I will do some cross stitch in a vain attempt to get it finished.
Glad you had a nice time Liri, the views from your cottage are lovely.
Cute puppy, looks like a mischief maker Pam
Glad to hear that remodelling is coming to an end Wonky and Steve, I'm sure it will all be worth it.
Hope everyone's aches and pains are improving.
