  • Just made an apple pie, waiting for it to come out of the oven - does that make life simpler or are they called something different in Scotland? image

    Evening all!

Phew...  sporrans, pancakes, jam & cream...  image

IMO, the only situation when you can put the cream on first is if the cream is clotted and very thick, and the jam is very runny.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Just Googled flapjacks, and it's obviously a North/South thing, the same as pancakes and drop scones.   Saw some yummy variation recipes from River Cottage.

I spend an afternoon usefully employed in the garden and then knitting, and the place goes to rack and ruin!   Cream, jam, kilts, sporrans, crunchies and flapjacks image

And my scones have to be plain, with cream on first instead of butter, then jam on top image

unless I'm in Devon, where I understand that sort of behaviour is a hanging offence image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
