I have racked 5 gallons of sweet blackberry wine. Too sweet for me, but it should make good mulled wine.

I have made 11 jars of blackcurrant jam, and sieved some to make 5 jars of blackcurrant syrup. The kitchen even looks reasonable. It usually looks like a chain saw massacre after I've made blackcurrant jam.

My one blackcurrant bush has gone crazy this year, I think I picked half a ton the other day and still half a ton to go.

I'm not a jam maker though so...image The freezer drawer is squashed full

Hello all! I seldom pop in here, but thought I'd just celebrate that my back seems well again after 10 solid days of hell. I worked a little bit every day, carefully, and it got better but never well, and yesterday I decided enough is enough, and after seeing to all my pets I just went back to bed, and pretty much spent the day there. And today I'm fine! Duh, there is something to be said for rest, but it's difficult to rest when my husband is away for weeks with our only car and the whole mini-farm is depending on me!

So my most positive and affectionate thoughts go out to all of you (Pat and Lesley come to mind) who are struggling with pain... take it easy. It helps. Who would have thought, eh?

  • Making cucumber pickle this weekend with all the cucumbers I'm getting from the plants in my conservatory. Just finished making jam with the last of my strawberries....raspberries next!! Apples are filling out on the tree that I grew from seed 25 years ago. Started to eat new potatoes from my pots. Tomatoes are just starting to go red, and lettuce is abundant!image Sweet peas, lavender, roses, dahlias and honeysuckle are filling the house.Oh, and the french beans and mange-tout are nearly ready.............

Twenty years ago I would have been happy with green concrete instead of a garden, now I can't get enough of it.

Don't you just love this gardening lark!!!imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

    And I love this thread!!imageimageimageimageimage

    Lovely Lindaimage.

Katherine I'm glad to hear that your back is improving.  You now know what helps so steady awayimage.  Perhaps gentle work and a siesta each dayimage.  I feel for the people with chronic pain.  My foot seems such a minor thing in comparison and I'm sure it's only temporary.  Welcome to the hobblers club Patimage.  Hope yours is easier tomorrow.  Actually it prob is tomorrow for youimage.

So many of you are growing lovely tasty fruit and veg and doing amazing things with them that I'm almost tempted to give it a go next yearimage.

Thanks everyone for their support. Funny thing about visiting the chiro,  at the time it feels sooooo good, but later it seems that everything he moved into correct alignment decides, when I'm home, that it's now the time to go back to where it wanted to be before.   I can't decide if it's just old age (75) and just put up with it, or to persevere and keep getting it put back into alignment.  I did absolutely nothing yesterday except TV and knitting, and talk about BORED!  I didn't even bother with the Tour last night.  Just as well hubby recorded it.

I'm amazed at how much food you are all producing.  I usually have lots of berries in summer - raspberries, loganberries and strawberries - and make a sort of strained syrup that we like on yoghurt or ice cream. It keeps the same as jam. Do any of you make cordial?  I make a mint cordial - I got the recipe from a lovely neighbour years ago, and it's deliciously refreshing in summer. My neighbour was from Iran and she said this type of drink is commonly sold in the street in her country. Happy to give recipe if anyone is interested.
