Hi folks! You all seem to have had lovely days in the garden.
I've been with OH to Sedbergh for a special picnic. My parents lived there for ages, all the time their grandchildren were growing up, and we all have lovely memories of happy family occasions spent there - walks by the river, messing about in the beck, climbing the Howgills etc.
We (my sister & I) wanted to commemorate my dad's life in Sedbergh in some tangible way, and have ended up contributing to a new picnic area next to the river, with a special bench dedicated to him.
Today was the "inaugural picnic" at the site, for all those involved in its construction, and OH, Sis & I enjoyed sitting on "the bench" to eat our lunch. No sun, but no rain either. Happy memories!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Trying to work out how many ways we can eat the rhubarb that's growing rampant in the garden. We gave it a rest year last year with the intention of moving it to the (as of yet non existent) vegetable garden but since its 13 days until my birthday and the "what do you want for your birthday" LAST year was a chicken run he had offered to build I'm not holding out hope of a vegetable garden appearing any time soon. Unfortunately I've not the strength to do it myself nor the money to hire Verdun to come and pose around the garden with his shirt off so encourage my friends to come and help.
KEF: I thought the neighbours drains were blocked I didn't realise it was you!!
We're back off to the vets tomorrow with Reggie as he still has an upset stomach. I'm hoping they sedate him rather than try to muzzle and pin him down for tests: he's a strong and determined dog! (Who doesn't like the vets).
Wonky has been WONDERFUL!!! Raspberries have been tamed. Weeds have been pulled up and binned. Rubbish has been binned. Runner bean patch has been manured. Runner bean teepee has been erected and runner beans have been planted. What is more - deeply troubling anxieties about layout of garden are troubling me no more - Wonky has helped me to prioritise. This autum will see a re-modelling of part of the garden - there may even be a pergola!!! She is a complete star!!!
For my part I have fed her with bacon baps and copious mugs of coffee, and allowed her to feed our robins
Oh, and guess what folks! Hefty has returned - large amounts of hedgehog poo were found in the garden this morning - food will be put out this evening once the blackbirds and woodpigeons have gone to bed
Rosé and olives are now being taken whilst pork chops and Charlotte potatoes are cooking - they will be eaten with buttery broad bean shoots
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
