Cold here too. Had to put my gardening waterproof on by the end of the afternoon, just to keep out the wind. Lovely day in the garden though...
Found these peeping out from under a dwarf willow.
It's bloodroot, Sanguinaria canadensis 'Plena' - fleeting flowers but really interesting leaves to follow.
Here are photos of the circular seating area (ie The Hollow!) for Beaus Mum and someone else (Lesley, perhaps? Sorry, can't remember. ) Because the whole garden slopes I had to excavate the area, using the topsoil elsewhere in the garden, and the underlying clay (from the "uphill" part) was used to level the circle (roughly, it still slopes a little bit) and to support the edge of the garden. I built the retaining wall using bits of broken flagstones and redundant stone roof slates (we saved all the ones which had to be replaced when we had the roof re-done). Lots of work with an angle grinder to get them the right size... Then gravel over weed suppressing fabric.
That's when it was just finished, 4 years ago.
and this one was taken last summer, when it was being used as a temporary holding area for young plants.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Thank you Fidget and RB. Those are the peppermint creams that OH remembers, but forgot the name. I'll try Tesco for the Garibaldis. Simple pleasures are important when you're 97 and in a nursing home.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Quite chilly now, but this morning was beautiful. Got quite a lot done in garden....at last!
Sweet dreams all. I've a long day at work tomorrow in a simulation smoke house so will be in pitch black all day - save me some sunshine for Monday!
