Me too, SHL and Steve. My hubby often jokes with friends and says I will only stay in a 5 star motel (he is of course lying).
I'm currently trying to produce an Italian style lamb stew for our dinner tonight. I think I've added too much sweet stuff like pumpkin and carrot. Have just added a can of tomatoes and more salt but not brave enough to taste yet.
Spent last night planning trip down to Cornwall - hotels for overnight stops en route etc - then watched Monty and An Extra Slice then went to bed - slept solidly from 9.45 until OH woke me around 6.30 with my mug of coffee - not as if I'd had an tiring day or anything - or maybe the unaccustomed use of brainpower working out routes, timings etc
Oh well, Yodel didn't deliver my recliner .......... maybe today .......... but I've got to go up to the farm shop, they have greengages in!!! Still, Yodel have my mobile number ... hopefully they'll text me, but they don't always ...
I used to love camping with the children - much preferred it to the caravan we got later - too confined - I love 'sleeping outdoors' I do like a decent toilet block within a reasonable distance - we found that the Forestry Commission campsites were very good.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Caravans keep you and clothes dry tho Dove and you can have your own loo.
Sometimes did self catering in cottages when boys were little.
But I do self catering all year, so I like a hotel Lol
I'd rather use the campsite loo and do without the emptying and cleaning etc
We never ever got wet in our tents (ask Wonky) - big tent, well maintained and treated with water repellent, erected very carefully and with a good groundsheet - the only time we had a problem was with the caravan, when the awning blew away in a gale, leaving son and large labrador roofless and wall-less - it was a bit cramped when they joined us in the caravan.
We always do self-catering in cottages nowadays - love it - going down to a lovely little one in Cornwall next month - so looking forward to it.
We do hotels for short city breaks but I really don't find them as relaxing as a little cottage near the beach or tucked away in the middle of Bodmin moor
Part of the fun of the holiday for us is finding good local food suppliers and cooking a few meals with their produce - as well as eating out of course

The smells coming from the kitchen were too hard to ignore, so we ended up pigging out at 5pm (rather early for us). Even though I do say so myself, it was pretty good. I also added some steamed kale and chard from the garden over some chick peas to fill us up. Worked very well. Hubby is still so keen that he is busily making a cake with some of my home grown apples which have been in the freezer since summer, yum.
I'm with you on the camping thing lily - ensuite facilities needed. Spent too many nights in horseboxes at shows when I was younger. 3 or 4 nights in a hotel versus a week or two in a tent or caravan....it's a no brainer for me! The father of a work colleague (he's about my age) always says he's not going to stay anywhere that's not at least as good as his own house! Quite right too
Sun's shining here. Hurray
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Morning all
my turn for mane taming this morning
. Might get into the garden and out on the bike this afternoon, now that the monsoon seems to have subsided
