Well done Matty - sounds like you've been busy. It is horrible when you feel like you're chasing your tail in the garden isn't it? I had that last year when I 'missed' a lot of March and most of April to indoor commitments and it felt like summer was half over before I caught up.

Please be careful though - you don't need to be knocking yourself out just yet. If the garden is a bit behind & not as good as usual this year it's not the end of the world.  Sounds like your OH is giving lots of support which is lovely image Nice pic & Happy Easter to you too!

Clari - You should still be able to summer prune your pear tree. Winter pruning encourages growth so, if you want to restrict the size, summer pruning may be better image

Dove - I have also been digging out the strays from my raspberries - I cannot believe how far those runners travelled in just 2 seasons. Fortunately mine are growing in a 5m square area well away from ornamental beds. I am trying to control them into a neat row but it's a battle. Wouldn't be without my raspberries & cream tho' image

    Evening all.

Lovely day here, but very little done, except for wandering round putting canes in the ground where I think various plants should go. The only problem being, that I can't tell any of the canes apart and of course did not label them.

Roast chicken in the oven, wine open, movie to follow, have fun everyone.

  • It wasn't that Bekkie, it was low growing and not tall, the leaves looked a bit sage like in the colour / texture but not the shape, I don't remember seeing it before.

My lunch party went well, there were 14 of us in the end so I was glad OH brought in a garden table. Dining room one can seat 10. Slow cooked lamb was very tender. I didn't need to do a pud as 3 guests brought lemon tart, trifle and chocolate mousse image

When everyone left I was able to get outside and do a bit of weeding and edging.

evening all. Did a bit of weeding with an old futon mattress on the kneeler for extra padding on the old knee, but still had to give up.

Courgettes and sweetcorn I sowed last Monday have germinated; isn't nature wonderful?

Watered tunnels. Bath beckons then   Poldark and Indian Summer.

  • It is Hosta, I get so excited when my seeds germinate. I'm just off to sow some annuals for my borders and then I will probably check them several times a day until I see little seedlings pushing through......then I tell everyone in the house and they have to come and look image

I've been sowing seeds for over 40 years , I know some of you have been doing it for more, but I can not describe the joy of seeing germination.

  • Evening All,

Been a very busy week and week-end but light at the end of the tunnel now, house clean, mountain of laundry done, garden tidy (ish), some seedlings potted on and some new seeds sown to replace eaten Cosmos and decapitated Lupins (thanks Shadow image).

Guests leave tomorrow & next lot not here until Weds so really hoping to catch up in garden, one bed is in desperate need of me also need to put my sweet peas out before they get too big for their pots.

Tulips opened up beautifully today as the sun was out, also found some I didn't know we had, some beautiful orange ones and also a gorgeous dafodil.

I do hope I will be able to bob in more often now the manic decorating & DIY project is finished (Hallelujah), I have really missed all the chatter and hope everyone is well. image

Lovely to hear what you've all been doing.  I'm envious of your germinating seeds - with recent events here I've not sown anything yet ... soon, very very soon image

We've just been watching Springwatch Easter Special  (again) and now we're watching the Caribbean prog - but I think I'd better have a quick catnap if I'm going to stay awake for Poldark image
