Plumber will have to come back when part for loo cistern arrives - probably middle of next week. He may also have to dig up part of studio floor to deal with pipe blockage in downstairs loo (washbasin only! )
I made the most of having to keep out of his way and watched the racing from Cheltenham while doing some knitting - what a fantastic Gold Cup it was!!! (Sorry, got racing people in the family so I've grown up with it - get very excited watching it on tv but I never go and I never bet.)
Anyone seen Woody or Pdoc lately
Chilli chuntering, cheese grated, salsa made, OH has brought corn chips and yoghurt home with him, along with a bottle of San Miguel for me and something darker for him. I'll put the rice on in a little while ...

Evening! Hope everyone has had a good Friday. It's been miserable here in the south west, chucking it down with rain most of the day and really cold with it. Won't be painting the fence this weekend by the look of it!
I'm feeling rather pleased, although I haven't done any gardening today I popped out this afternoon and got some Astrantia Majors - superstar and star of billion. I can't wait to get my plants in.
Liriodendron - yes I certainly am a seasider. My garden isn't quite as exposed as some of my friends and family's but salt tolerance is definitely an issue round here. I'm not sure how much help I am on plant selection but have a friend who's a gardener by profession who is finding out via trial and error what works in her partner's garden which is very exposed to the sea!
A question, might post a thread but in case anyone on here knows - can anyone tell me about paper mulberry trees? Saw one at the nursery and the guy said he'd never had anyone ask about it so looked it up and the images show a tree with really interesting fruit and leaves. It sounds like it might suit my front garden but can't find much online about how it grows over here, and it sounds like it's considered invasive and a bit of a problem weed. Anyone got any experience with them? Thanks!
Hello all, good day in the garden despite a bit of drizzle.
Came in for a bit this afternoon to let the worst of it pass and also watched the Gold Cup, absolutely love it, OH not impressed with my love of horseracing but my betting days are over. Just as well as my favourite came in 4th. Used to live in Statford Upon Avon and this week always had a great buzz about it, always lots of Irish staying and celebrating/commiserating and passing on 'dead certs' of winners. Happy Days.
All my new plants are in and quite a few weeds are out, however have done a lot of wandering around, thinking and planning, obviously very important but not got quite as much done as I should have.
Still waiting on a man (isn't that always the case) to bring my rubble and soil to fill my soon to be rockery, OH still concerned about damage to grass delivery will do but can't think of any way around it, can't just leave a big gaping hole in the garden.
Enjoying the start of spring in garden so much, everyday a new surprise, still not been here a year so super to see what appears. Have violets, forsythia, so many hellebores and just discovered emerging bluebells and lots of little tete a tetes. Also a few hyacinths poking through and every colour camellia, great hedges of them. Obviously still room for improvement next year, can see myself getting sacks more bulbs.
Good evening to all, enjoy.

A lovely choice of rose Verdun - David Austin describe it as possibly the best rose they've ever introduced, so very apt
Hostafan - I hope your OH is having a really lovely birthday
Dd, I loved the Gold Cup - wasn't it a brilliantly run race? I love steeplechasing (watching, not doing!!!) my cousin was a trainer and uncle was very involved, plus I knew some breeders and other trainers - the first horse I can remember ever riding was a point to pointer - I was small and he was huge!!! I've not been to the races or placed a bet for years, but I still love watching it on the tv.
I hope everyone's having a lovely evening

I can't moan too much Verdun, we usually get warmer weather than most other places! We have a real microclimate where I am, tends to be better still than a lot of places nearby.

Runny I'll tell you about the meal if they survive it

No Runnybeak, it's not my birthday tomorrow - it's Lesley's!
(Though I could get a taste for having a birthday every week...

hiya from sunny Hampshire.
Spent OH's birthday buying plants , although I did veto the weed that is Acanthus Mollis.
Bought 6 clematis, some more grasses , paeonias, sundried herbaceous plants and a fatsia.
Well earned Indian takeaway with friends, daughter and her boyfriend this evening.
Home in the morning.
