Thats the trouble with having pets, they dont live for very long and then we are heartbroken when they go. So sorry Lizzie for your loss, he had a lovely life with you.
Lyn, Tigger hasn't died yet, he has liver cancer.
Hugs RB. Lovely goose and dog. But that is the trouble with animals, they don't really live that long compared with us. But it's worth it. I've had 6 Border Collies over the last 37 years.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
My soil is on the slightly acidic side, and grow armandii on northish facing fence, think that thing would grow on the moon! , also got a self sown everlasting sweet pea and rose zephrine wotsit growing on the same fence.
Thanks for ideas, Lizzie and Bekkie. There's a bit of old mortar, fallen out of the wall, which I guess probably makes it a bit less acid in that area... and in general, Lizzie, I think you're right about NE being the wrong aspect for clematis. Maybe alpina or montana? Or something else entirely??
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
So sorry about your Goose RB, we had a pair of geese in the field next door, when we first moved here. They were a never ending source of amusement, except in Spring when the males thoughts turned to luurrvve, and he used to start honking at 4a.m.
Busy day removing debris from the various storms since Christmas. A few old favourites are definitely damaged beyond repair, which is sad, but it does give me lots of room for new stuff.
Steak for tea, so just opening a nice Claret to go with it.
Have a lovely evening all.

Lovely pics of Mr Goose and Molly RB. What a beautiful dog. Sending hugs x
Liri, I don't think clematis is the best for north east and acid soil. But I expect someone will advise you, I have alkali soil.

Thanks Bekkie - I shall google some... Love Zephirine Drouhin rose, had it in Northumberland - not sure what it would think of WYorks though!
I've got 4 clematis on a north-facing fence and they're all doing just great. Here's two of them
Clematis alpina Pamela Jackman
Clematis H.F. Young
both on my northfacing fence, planted the previous year.
