Lots of snow here. I was the only one to make it in to the museum and while I'm now safely home my phone is on charge as I've offered my trucks services if it gets worse.
No snow here. No rain here. No gales here. No sun here.
Flynn demanded to run off some steam otherwise I wouldn't have done any gardening today as I'm a bit pooped. So, while he hared around the place, I safely disposed of a random pile of unwanted glass and debris, oh and my little patio trellis fell down when I leant on it, so had to clear it all away and try and root prune an overgrown Accanthus Mollis next to the patio.
Now when I say root prune, I do of course mean, digging a deep trench patio side, sifting all the soil for bits of root and aiming to destroy anything that spurts new leaves in the coming months.
So I now have a large pile of dirt overflowing on my patio, 1 bag of leaves for my compost and 1 bag of roots for council bin. At least I can improve the soil in the future and see if my experiment warrants expanding the trench all the way round the plant to keep it in check. I do regularly pull out seedlings anyone who has this plant will understand it's incredible tenure in our gardens but well, I did say it was experimental. and I had to do something in the garden, so eager to plant but the forecast is sleet, maybe worse.
Really sunny now, snow melted, but more snow clouds coming over. I've just put together an 7' obelisk for my jasmine. It used to grow up a tree that had to be removed due to disease. I bought it online from Gap Garden Products, it was £55.99 including delivery and although not cheap I have to say it is very good value for money. It is really strong and very attractive, may have to get another for balance.
I love the look of acanthus mollis Wintersong but don't grow it as I'm trying to keep the garden free from plants that can become troublesome (still trying to get rid of japanese anemones).
Walked half a mile on the snowy pavements for my hair doing roads dodgy so left car at home quite a pleasant stroll in crunchy snow walked home in a blizzard snow in face jeans wet through and hard to breathe due to bitter wind, I'd been home 20 mins and the sun came out Now everything is going crunchy and temperature has rapidly dropped.
Brief catch up on here so here we go:
Liri hope your visit to mum went well.
BM very best wishes for your move and new home
Yvie hope you have recovered from nanna duties.
Lizzie good news about mower / tractor part
Garden girl not seen you for a few days hope all is okay.
Phew !! ... sorry for peeps I've missed out but best wishes to all
Toaster, Edd Bekkie mine has a defrost setting but I lift out how many slices I need the night before and sit it on kitchen towel I think it tastes better than toasted from frozen
Going to watch recorded Wolf Hall tonight..hopefully by then I will have thawed out.
All stay snug, and hugs for the workers and I hope they get home safely without too many delays.
Beaus I hope you have finished the last of the packing and just have your bags left to put in the car tomorrow. Try to relax tonight. Easier said than done I know.
KEF at least you were sensible leaving the car at home but I bet you didn't feel as though you had been 'coiffured' by the time you got home. Hope you've thawed out by now.
Liri at least you can have a bit of a rest now you're back home. We're the grandchildren excited to have a new house?
DD - do you ever stop? Btw thanks for volunteering my services for snow clearing. I'm exhausted now
Verdun I love L. Beaujolais, but find that it only seems to be biennial with me, so I stopped growing it.
Seriously thick snow here, although OH says that the main roads are ok. How am I supposed to get up our drive, then along un-treated lane, then up 1 in 5 hill to reach main road.
I will go bankrupt if this carries on, too many tempting purchases on line.
Stay safe.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team

No snow here either. Just the cold wind. It was quite sunny a couple of hours ago but now overcast.

Snow has stopped here for the time being, but it's jolly chilly - blinds were closed here early and the heating turned up a notch Brrrrrrrr!!!
OH is home from work and is asleep on the sofa next to his cup of tea
In a few minutes I'll assemble a low-cal (-ish) homemade chicken and leek soup for our Fast-Day supper so it'll be ready when he wakes up.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
like the sound of that combo Verdun. Might I ask where you got the seed?
