You might well be right KEF - Cornwall is so much like another country it may as well be one (which many Cornish folk say it is anyway!)
Hoariest frost yet here last night - will try and take some photo's.
Put an extra feeder up yesterday, so now two with just sunflower seeds and two with mixed seed plus a fatball holder and the birdtable. So far this morning (watching via video camera), the bluetits seem to have claimed one of the sunflower feeders and the coaltits have bagsied the other - exclusively as far as I can tell. The blackbird still 'owns' the birdtable but the robin is overseer and owns everything when he is around - busy little begger!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Morning all - another frosty one here, although looks like it will be the last for a while. The lumps of ice i am removing from the bird bath each morning are all still in tact, sitting in a row on the wall - so its obviously not been getting that warm in the day either.
Not planning a big night here (hate NY - always more sad about the end of a year than excited about the next ... usually takes me a few weeks in Jan to realise that it will, after all, be the bestest year ever). Quite a bit of taxi driving - my choice, as its one night I do not want Chicklet driving herself - she's not an idiot, but there will be plenty of others out there who are.
but before that ... maybe another walk in the winter wonderland before it disappears into puddles......
I wasn't around for the flower count last year either, I'll take a look this year have some wallflowers out and a few other bits and bobs I think. Mind you its been very frosty over the last week or so and so I havent ventured up the garden, try and keep off the lawn when its frosty.
I'm not a fan of new year either Chicky, I just remember being very excited about it and very disappointed when it didn't come up to expectations. Firstborn having a big party at home but I'm being a killjoy and staying at home in front of the fire, might have a tipple or two though.
Frosty -8° this morning, so I don't suppose there will be many flowers here, but there are some roses that look frozen.
Horses knocked down 3 fence posts yesterday and got into a little wood that I'd fenced off as one of them eats barks which kills the trees. I'd forgotten to put the electric fence on - usually they don't notice.
Not doing anything for New Year, first time for ages, perhaps ever, bit of a relief.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all, funny day for me today, going to a local town to pick up an old friend who is visiting for New Year from the station, then need to go back to same town to drop my son off at a party this evening, then go back to pick him up sometime after midnight! Bizarre as usually only go there a couple of times a year.
Have the same lazy feeling star gaze lilly, need to tidy up and hoover a bit for friend visiting, still in my dressing gown eating breakfast. Was busy though yesterday, got my bench built and varnished in the potting shed. Get the next couple of days over with and then a quiet weekend with some bags of seeds and seed compost to look forward to.
Cold here too, but glorious sunshine and crispness. Great for walking.
Central heating issue is now diagnosed, confirming my suspicions as to what was wrong. All we need to do now is find a solution given that the errant part is no longer available! At least I can keep it going by fiddling with it , and it is fine on milder days.
Ho Hum, such is life. Anyway I have no complaints about 2014.. Shall finish with a concert by the Berlin Philarmonic (live link), and a party. Tomorrow's another year......
