Morning all. Its so cold today! Not sure what the temperature went down to overnight but there is a rather thick covering of frost over the greenhouse and the garden. Not sure I will be doing much gardening today! Will probably go out and check the bird feeders and see whether my Virburnum Bodnantense Dawn is flowering yet. My Hamamelis Mollis We had a lot of damaged apples this year so wondering whether I should get some grease bands to put round the fruit trees to help?
Same here allium, thick cover of frost and crunchy white grass, it feels freeeezinggg! Off to the bird feeders and to melt a hole in the pond, then in the shed for the day, with a heater on
Freezy here too - -6 yesterday night, haven't been out to check yet today, but definitely the coldest here for a couple of years. But 1)very pretty, 2)I don't have to drive in it this week, and 3) (as Clari said) might dispatch a few of the nasty bugs.
will join KEF on another walk later - trying to work off all those chocolate calories - plus love a good walk in the cold when you are all wrapped up and toasty
Daughter phoned to say the streets were very icy at 6am as she was walking to work and she's glad she's old enough to wear sensible shoes - she's doing a split shift today so will be at home now until 4ish and then working this evening and walking home in the ice tonight Brrrrrrrrr! Bless her!!!
I've been out and thawed the birds' water and put out porridge oats, raisins and no mess ground feed, topped up the feeders and told the blackbirds to be nicer to the chaffinches and dunnocks
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We went to a neighbours drinks party the weekend before Christmas, and met some new neighbours who have a field of horses, and nowhere to put the manure. They live down the road from us, so pass us every day in their pickup truck. Well, he has just knocked on the door, and Mr Chicky and he are now working out the best place for him to dump said manure, on an almost daily basis. So we can have a couple of piles on the go - one maturing, one being added to, and one in use ......result!! Plus have made some new friends into the bargain.
something tells me that this is not the sort of good news story my family or work colleagues will understand ..... but I know forkers will share my joy
Gemma - sounds like a good plan. Managed to fill up the bird feeder. Went for a look around the garden and think my snowdrops that I planted out in the green at the beginning of the year are showing signs of shooting. Everything else looks quite sorry for itself with the heavy frost. On a positive note have seed catalogues to peruse in the warm this morning then out for a brisk walk this afternoon with the kids. Don't think we will be out for long though!

Morning all.
No particular plan for today. Could do more ironing sitting in front of telly, could hoover sitting room floor.
-3° this morning, but no frost, cold and grey. But warmer than yesterday when it was -8° with a frost.

-5 here in Hampshire at 6 o'clock and my central heating is playing up again!
So will be staying in waiting for a phone call, so might as well do HW. Visitors tomorrow, so had to be done sometime.

Nice pic Clari.
Hope you get heating sorted Woody.
Think I might go out for a walk later, need to burn off the chocolates I've eaten these last few days
