  • Sorry for being Awol (again) but stuff taking up diary including Hortsoc AGM ( chairman againimage): shop preparations for Christmas, recipe book launched on Wednesday: and all the normal distractions.

Cut back dead (probably,) eleagnus and replaced it with 1 large and 2 conifers. This between 2 other conifers so this is now called....wait for it...conifer corner... simples.

Braised some mutton from village shepherd with leeks and cream etc. N. Slater, naturally. Enough for about 3 days.

Now on fairly serious diet, since friend has gone to Spain to live on Juice for a week!! Must win that one, competitive mischief or what?image

hugs to all as we approach Crimble.image

    Whey hey! At last! imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

A day in the garden for me imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Chopped, trimmed, raked, kinda mulched, still looks a blooming mess :-/

Eventually planted the last tree - amelanchier - not at the bottom of the garden as planned, but right smack in my eyeline when I look out of the window! imageimageimage

Remember when the big tree split and fell last summer? I've been trying to get OH to chain saw it to pieces ever since, and especially now as we have a skip for other things. He's finally stopped umming and ahhing and said "no". So decide d to plant the amelanchier in front of it anyway! Can't wait to see it in all its glory! imageimageimage
  • I went outside a little while ago and squelched across the lawn to the cold frame, the pond is full to the brim and the herb garden is virtually knee deep in water .... and the rain is still battering on the windows image

Think I'll put my feet up, get a glass of something and watch Sue Perkins on the Mekong .... see you in the morning folks .... sweet dreams everyone image

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Hi Verd, Eleagnus was all the rage about 20/30 years ago. I am well rid of this one although there is a suspicion of honey fungus which may be confirmed tomorrow.

Not sure of conifer types as labels may be long gone, but will have a look. This corner is now much improved.image

Runnybeak, I agree with you. I do speak Queen's English (sorry, been told posh), but I pronounce those words the same as you.

You sound so beautifully happy Mrs. G, made me smile too image

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Thanks BL, it's been such a long time since I spent any time in the garden.

    night all
  • Good morning all image

There's a sharp frost out in the front garden this morning with ice on the puddles and the car windscreen (at least I don't have to clear it to go to work image - thinking of those who do and sending warm gloves image)

The temp in the back garden only dropped to 1.7C, still pretty chilly but nothing's frozen 'out back'. image
