Morning all. I'm off work today as the boss agreed Tuesday attempt at a day off... didn't work too well.

So I've done the washing,  put the autumn feed on the lawn, climbed into my uniform and waiting for the rush hour to lift before I'm back off to work. I've been watching the awful story in the news of a boy left fighting for his life after his father and brother died ina house fire and now need to go into work to ensure my boss gives his consent (I.e. I will have his hand behind his back if needed) to let me offer the school anything we can give them at no cost in case we can help the other students (especially the younger ones) understand what happened. Even if it's just taking a fire engine to school for them to climb in.

    Keep safe everyone xx

Clari, that sounds like a really good idea!  (helping the school cope with the trauma that is, not going commando! image)

Bekkie, I think you're not alone in not knowing what your council tax is spent on - here's a list of some of it:

    • Youth services
    • Libraries
    • Parks, open spaces and galleries
    • Leisure facilities, including swimming pools and recreation centres
    • Social care for the elderly, children and other vulnerable members of the community
    • Support for the voluntary sector  (that means the charities that provide services for the elderly and vulnerable etc)
    • Planning and building control
    • Refuse collection, street cleaning and other environmental issues
    • Maintenance of roads and bridges
    • Traffic management and road safety
    • Parking services and control
    • Elections, registrars of births, marriages and deaths
    • Cemeteries, crematoria and mortuary services
    • Consumer protection
    • Economic development and regeneration
    • Community development services
    • Housing, including the provision of social housing, housing strategy and advice and services for the homeless
    • Housing Benefits and Council Tax administration.

The Council is also responsible for schools and other educational services for children but these are paid for through the Dedicated Schools Grant. This is a grant from the Government and does not fall on the Council Tax.

Morning all. Not been for a couple of days really so only had a skim rather than  a proper look.

I get angry when I hear these issues about council cutbacks. I don't see councillors cutting back on their private cars to take them a few hundred yards to some junket. We have a situation where they spend 30 grand a year delivering children by taxi to schools here because they've got a placement and, rather than moving into it as it's more expensive, they live outside the area and expect someone else to get them there...taxpayers in other words. You couldn't make it up.

I hope you get a result MrsG - keep poking the bear.

Did you try putting a bandage on Mr KEF ? That works for most things KEF.image.. over the mouth is usually the best place...image

Clari - is your real name Nicholas?   Get it? That's a quality joke imageimage

I'd better go and have a look round before I come up with any more of those. Have a  good day at t'mill any workers image

That joke was pants Fairyimage  I thought you had been busy rather than ill or have I missed something?

Just had a call from my Dad to say that my Mum had a fall in the garden yesterday but fortunately she's only got a few grazes.  She was out deadheading the pansies I planted when I was last there - so it's my faultimage

    Hi folks,

KEF Sorry to hear about hubby hope he feels better soon.

BL Its a real shame about your rescued moggy but as everyone else has said at least he had you to look after him at the end.

Clari must have missed the bit about your pants, I'm sure they will turn up eventually, but where is the questionimage

Dove I'm with you on the council tax.  I'd rather pay a bit more and get good services than save a couple of quid and find that libraries and day centres have to close.

Lesley Hope your mum is OK, if you hadn't planted the pansies she would probably have fallen trying to put them in herself. But then that would still have been your fault.  My mum has a way of making me feel guilty without ever blaming me for anything, I just don't know how she does it.

A bit dull and dismal here but it's looking like it might brighten up later.  Havent been in the garden for a couple of days.   Have plants to put in but just don't feel like it.

Hope miners have a good day.
