We're used to seeing huge red Arion rufus in the garden and we leave them alone or put them in the compost bins, because they help break down organic matter and eat small slugs, but apparently the Spanish Slugs are bad news http://www.edp24.co.uk/mobile/news/norwich_experts_call_for_help_with_research_into_invasion_of_killer_slugs_1_3760154 I've reported it on Slugwatch and I've followed Dr Bedford's instructions for the disposal of the SS and am keeping my eyes peeled for more

Apparently they can withstand drought better than our native slugs, they eat plants not normally eaten by slugs and they also breed more prolifically.
There's also concern that they will cross-breed with our native ones - I suppose that will give them hybrid vigour and they'll get bigger and hungrier and start attacking cats and small dogs Might keep the rabbits down tho' ....... if they can climb perhaps they'd get the squirrels too ......

Party who said party??? I'm game fidget KEf much prefers cheese scones to cakes
Been weeding and now beetroot cooking for tomoz or freezing. Carrots & chard, our spuds and shop broads beans & cauli on the menu with pork tenderloin cooked over apple puree ( ours) and garlic chives thrown on the top.
Oooo KEF can I come for tea at yours and then go to the party?
Had a fabulous day - BM has pics, little Panda didn't take very many this time She was too busy nattering and identifying plants I did take a couple that will need superior skills than those to hand to identify - I think I need a pocket Nut for when I go on visits without her
Some shopping was done post garden wandering, I have a bag full of little heathers and two rather lovely ex display plants (the name of which has completely slipped my memory ) Chicky knows what they are, and the variety they are. Panda's brain is like a sieve Echinacea - that's what they are
Been quiet on here today - hope that means you've all had a good day
Looking forward to the Wisley pics Glad you all had a lovely time.
We've had a busy day - OH has spring cleaned the garage, damping down the dust and sweeping then vacuuming - and rearranging all the storage. Now it's possible to walk from the front to the back without having to climb over anything. There are some other things that will be moved on before too long - (mountain bike in need of repair and a pine double bedstead anyone???).
I've mowed and edged the front lawn and done some serious weeding. I've also planted up a tub with a yellow phormium and yellow/bronze heucheras. It can go on the front porch when the Black Eyed Susans are finished. I've taken up the wax beans and they've gone into the mini-greenhouse to ripen and dry the seeds.
We've had some very good steak for supper, with new potatoes and Chantenay carrots and runner beans from the garden. I've also frozen some beans. A bottle of Rioja needed finishing up
OH has done the washing up and I'm watching Countryfile and trying to keep my eyes open
I hope Verdun's had a lovely birthday

I have some deer around here they could chase off, Dove.
Lovely day here. I've been catching up on the deadheading, lifted onions, made cakes and cheese scones, so I'm all ready for the party.
Is it in Verduns cabin??
