OL - I've decided "what if" is going to be banned or I would never do anythingimage

I heard from Busybee last week -she's fine but she's up to her eyes in end of term stuff, school sports day and loads of other parental and foster parental duties - plus gardening of course image

  • I am sure that flying over France and Italy will be as safe as ever.

Went to a very small nursery today on the recommendation of Gg. It's only 2 miles from me and I have always driven past before. Amazingly they had a lovely old stone trough/sink for my alpines/Terrace, and only £50, which is very cheap. These things are very difficult to find. What luck.imageimageimage Happy bunny.

Also bought alpine aster for 50p.  !!!!

Good spread and pictures in local newspaper, for last Saturday's Flower Show. Record entrants, visitors and takings. image

As you are such a friendly group I hope you don't mind me asking an almost non gardening question.  Having been successful in growing blackcurrants for the first time this year I decided to make them into jam.  Have just tried it for the first time and I have a problem.  It's set solid and I mean solid, I can just about get a spoon into it.  Do you think it I warmed it up and added some water it would make a softer set?  I've tried finding an answer on the web but have failed so far.

Hi Muddyfork image  I did that once - I used Jam Sugar which has added pectin rather than Preserving Sugar.  Blackcurrants are really high in pectin.

I'm not an expert Jam maker but I'll ask someone who is ..........

Hi muddy fork, of course we don't mind you asking.  I made blackberry jam that set too much last year, not a lot I could do with it I don't think, I just heating it up in the microwave a bit when I wanted to use it, thankfully there wasnt too much.

That's a good idea, never thought of it.  Thankfully only 2 jars but does represent my entire crop.

Muddyfork - I've posted a query on here http://www.wildfood.info/index.php but there's not many people about at the moment - it may be a little while before I get an answer image
