That makes perfect sense Gg. I don't think there was any doubt as to why No.1 is called Verdunimageimage.

Sorry to hear about your friends John.  Hope they are now on the road to recovery. That was a long drive for you.  You;re a very good friend.  Sounds as though you will be eating plenty of veg and salad nowimage

Glad you managed to get two more pots Lizzie.  Plenty of time now to choose which roses to put in themimage

Just emptied one of the potato barrels, nice half a bucketful of pots - Vales Emerald. While I was out there I took a quick pic of the Nasturtiums (below)

Lovely pic John - I think nasturtiums are under-rated - lovely plants (as long as they don't get eaten by the caterpillars).  I've got some climbing up the trellis with my grapevine.   Sorry to hear about your friends but glad that you've got them safely home - they must've been so relieved to see you.

Yesterday the temp struggled to get above 15C - today it's nearly 28C and very humid.  First thing this morning it was chilly and damp so the BBQ was changed into a buffet - then the sun came out image

My young friend was very happy and telling me all about her new baby niece.  It was great to meet up again with the Befriender who I matched her with over 10 years ago - she is still a major part of her life - quite proud of that piece of work image

Hi L/K, yes, it was a long trip: Bristol to Plymouth & back then after a night's rest we did Bristol - Bannockburn on Weds 2nd and I returned to Bristol on Thurs. 3rd. Round trip was over 1000 miles. My mum is 101 in October and is in a nursing home in Birmingham so I was able to call in and see her. Arrived at tea time & staff had set me a place at tea table but didn't tell her who the extra place was for. Her face was a picture when I walked in and she proudly announced to everyone "This is my Son, he's come to see me!" - which they all knew who I was 'cos we do go & see her regularly but they also knew I was on my way and she was the only one who didn't know! still, it was a nice surprise for her.

It wasn't a tiring journey for me as a). I love driving and b). my latest car is a Land Rover Freelander 2 automatic which I've only had 3 months and have clocked up over 6000 miles already!

Great that you could make your Mum's day John. She sounds as though she is doing well for her age.image

Lovely picture of your garden.  Could you tell me what the silver leafed plant on the left is - just above the highest point of the nasturtiums?  I may be wrong and it's a white flowerimage  I'm looking for a plant with similar colouring.

Hello everyone image It is very muggy here, cloudy and a bit breezy....heavy rain forecast from 8. Heavy rain also forecast at Hope Valley so I hope my bug boy is back from today's walk and gets the tent set up before it starts.

Good to 'see' you John, sorry to hear about your friends but glad they are ok and back home safe....I hope they make a full recovery.  Happy birthday to your mum too, that's amazing image

Well of today's to do list I've got a whopping 2 things done!!!  No bushes cut, no weeding done, dogs not walked and big boys room not cleaned or ironing done image But we have been for coffee and found the car my OH is probably going to get when the time comes.....oh well at least we got something done! Off to well known discount SM now and will try to ignore the dry plants image

Absolutely sweltering now - I've walked around the garden, watched the frogs in the pond enviously and decided that there's watering of toms and courgettes to be done later and potting on of chillies to be done tomorrow, as well as some shuffling around of pots on the terrace so that plants are shown off to their best advantage - but none of it will be done just yet - it's far too hot and besides, there's a large family of blackbird fledglings enjoying the garden - I really don't want to disturb them image

I shall watch some of the athletics on tv - I like watching athletics - son ran 100m for the junior county team way back - still has achilles problems image
