I've just got back from the farm shop with the weekend supplies - and I got diverted via the GC and picked up a small tray of Hispi spring cabbage to plant out in one of the raised veg beds. I haven't grown spring cabbage for years - let's hope the pigeons aren't hungry this winter, or when the netting comes off the pond it'll have to go over the cabbages.
Another load of washing is ready to hang out - the temp outside is nearly 20C - the washing will steam dry!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I've just planted 10 Hispi cabbage plants in one of the raised beds. I don't have time to net them today so hope the pigeons don't spot them yet - OH calls the ringleader Peabrain 'cos he's not very bright, so hopefully the cabbages will be safe for a while.

I've not had spring cabbage for years Dove. Lovely with roast lamb
I wish I hadn't had a lie in this morning because I would have had better weather for dog walking. I've just come back completely drenched Very heavy showers here so washing is in the tumble drier - wish the dog could go in too.
Dordogne Damsel said "my gardening advisers all seem to have had bad experiences with DA roses". All except me, if I count. What you have to remember is that they were bred in England which is cooler and damper than here. So they will need regular watering, here in summer, unless it's a real downpour, there isn't enough rain to keep the ground moist without watering. Where I am the soil is poor - yours is better further north, so they need regular feeding. My daughter near Poitiers has had success with them.
Spent 2 hours mucking out the horses' summer shelter, they'd pulled the hay all over the place and trampled and pooed in it. I don't do it regularly as it's some way from the house and has an earth floor. Usually the farmer does it with his tractor. Now must go and bang in some fence posts and replace some of the electric ribbon. Preparing to stay with daughter, only 2 days, but OH isn't horsey so don't want to leave him that sort of job.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Lesley we seem to be managing to avoid the heavy showers completely here. My washing's dry and it's not been out long - it's very breezy. You could have sent it over
Beautiful pic fidget - I like your new friend
BL - you're a glutton for punishment - take it easy at daughter's and be a lady of leisure
doc - hope all is ok.
More digging done - this morning's haul has produced the biggest kerbstone/step and it was right in front of the back steps. I could dig the hole out a bit more and do one of those jungle traps with the spikes and cover it with a thin layer of twigs....
Lunch break and a catch up before I go back out.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
