  • Monty Don is an inspiration; in his openness about both his mental health and neurological problems, but, let's face it, GW with him at the helm never really worked.

I'd (wrongly) suspected that his stroke was cited as a face-saving exercise to spare the blushes of those who appointed him in the first place.

After just seeing the initial return episode, I can only ask the powers-that-be to beg Toby Buckland and the lovely Alys to return - and fast!
  • I totally agree with Tedzbfd. Bring back Toby! Not impressed with how the BBC treated him. Toby was an excellent teacher.
  • Good programme - now I shall plant shallots inside first, not let the birds pull them out of the ground.
  • Monty is a god. He makes so much sense. I stopped watching with Toby. Now I'll watch every week.
  • THANK GOODNESS ,
MONTY IS BACK ~ CALMNESS IS RESUMED AND BUSINESS RETURNS TO NORMAL .

I HAVE WATCHED GW FROM THE GOOD OLD GEOFF DAYS AND SWITCHED OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF WHEN TOBY AND CO TOOK THE HELM ,
.... ALL I CAN SAY IS PHEW , FRIDAY NIGHT IS NOW CHILL OUT AGAIN....................
  • Oh no! I just went to watch the new series of GW and Toby, Alys and the old garden are gone! As a keen , 30 something amateur gardener with diverse tastes I really related to Toby and Alys's individual styles. I liked the fact that the show had a sense of humour too. Toby and Alys, if you're reading this, I hope to see you back on my screen soon. Really wanted to see what would become of the bog garden! Gutted!
  • What a disappointment, I hadn't realised Toby and Alys weren't on any more. Oh well I suppose the blue-rinsers will be pleased and I don't need to Sky+ it anymore..
  • I was very excited to find out gardeners world was back....much to my wifes dismay! How short lived that was though. Where has Toby gone? As a relatively young gardener (38) I was inspired by Toby’s enthusiasm and humour.
  • Nope still not got it - nice garden Monty, but what was that strange bit & i do mean strange bit with Joe & Rachel? pond weed dredging & clematis snipping - oh dearey me. The Carol bit was good stuff, a bit brief but it is only a half hour show i suppose, shame as that was "the" good bit. I really do think that it should be an hour long show. Nothing inspiring or exciting or memorable here. Nothing to inspire me out into my 1 acre garden this weekend i'm afraid. I know it's still wintery out there but when i think of how inspiring Chris Beardshaws' Winter Garden was...
  • I've been an enthusiastic watcher of GW for almost 30 years-no matter who the presenters have been ,( i've had my likes and dilikes)and wherever they have gardened from.Surely keen gardeners would want to do the same.
