Speechless, really speechless at how Toby has been treated. He was so watchable and i learnt from him. Won't bother now as i cannot bear Monty and never learn from his ways.
Just found this blog and would like to add, gardening is my passion,no matter what the weather or season i'm out there in my garden pottering. I'll stick to that in future as i feel the feeling will no longer be the same regarding my Friday night Gardeners World fix. My well thumbed gardening books will be at the ready instead. I have cancelled my Gardeners World subscription.
I'm stunned to learn that the dull, dull, dull Monty Don's being brought back to GW - I can't think of anybody worse. I'd rather see Homer Simpson doing it - at least he's infinitely more interesting!
Don was just awful last time, giving rise to a total switch off of the programme in this house. He isn't a gardener (unlike Toby), he's a dull presenter, and he brings about as much to GW as a dead sheep.
Switch-off time again, until they get rid of him. I'm sure it won't be long before the viewers suss out just what he's like, and ditch the programme (or 'show' as MD will doubtless call it) for something of more interest to proper gardeners.
Why must the BBC always insist on dumbing down programmes to the lowest possible level with presenters like Monty Don?
I'm with the gang that will switch off and i have cancelled my GW mag from the news agent. Toby is a good bloke.Great shame. They would not want what I would say about monty on the blog so nuf said.
what a joy to have Monty back . I found Toby Buckland so boring I stopped watching after a few months. Pity about Alyss Fowler though she was charming and knowledgeable. Could someone persuade Jo Swift to drop his false Cockney accent ?
I will not be watching, Monty Don came over as a know it all, and vastly "superior" to the rest of us. He did nothing but bang on about veg and organics and I found it BORING. Give us some more gardening programmes to cater for all.One half hour a week is derisory anyway. I wish Toby and Alys all the best for the future and hope they get snapped up by another more discerning channel
How could anyone accuse the BBC of dumbing down by bringing Monty back? Ar ethey watching the same person? He's intelligent, educated, enthusiastic and personable and that comes through in all the programmes he presents. It's a shame about Alys and Toby, and even more of a shame the BBC wasted so much money on Greenacres, but it was a failure as a garden and the programme was dull, dull, dull. Anyone who wants step by step instructions can go out and buy a garden encyclopedia. The rest of us can watch intelligent and entertaining TV instead of the dumbed down patronising Blue Peter style nonsense of the last two series.
Were you watching the same programme ?I can not recall Monty ever coming over as any of those things whitecottagegardener.
Never mind the money and Greenacres as they will sell that. The real issue is that Toby was treated so badly. The producers never let him just get on with it and made him do some daft things but beyond that you could see that he was a bloke who knew his stuff unlike Monty who is a simpering , dull and dreary misery of a bloke. Dull, dull and very dull is what it will be with him back. It takes a clever person like Toby to explain things simply Monty couldn't explain anything that even made any sense. And the amount of stuff he got wrong was ridiculous. I agree with who evr it was who said he can not hold a spade properly - as far as I reckon he did very little properly at all.
