  • I don't know whether to laugh or cry - Monty!? Does the bbc really think that Monty will pull back viewers? There probably will be a big watching turnout for the first 1 or 2 episodes, out of curiosity and in hope! But honestly it will turn out to be the Monty Don show-again, as he is quite overbearing and monopolises everything. I bet he strops when he can't have his own way off camera. I've cancelled my Gardeners World subscription and won't be watching it on tele as i don't like his gardening ways and have never learnt anything from him.
  • Preferred Alan, but Carol or Toby should now be fronting, definitely not Monty. Have met them all and find Monty presumptious and overbearing which is probably what upsets viewers. He doesn't know how to utilise garden equipment properly either which is somewhat alarming. A rather odd chap.
  • For us is it has to be Chris Beardshaw for all the right & wrong reasons lol!!
Eye candy for us lady gardeners & a proper gardener as well. What more could you ask for? xxxxxxxx
  • I thought Toby was very good and can not see how the BBC ahve got away with treating Toby so badly as well as not listening to the viewers.
I am not going to be watching Monty - I get annoyed at the rubbish he spouts and his advice is often wrong.
Would Toby ever trust the BBC when they ask him back?
  • Good grief how could the BBC get it so wrong? Montys' current G.World article says so much about him and i've read pretty much the same stuff in one of todays Saturday newspapers magazine articles, budgets? don't think his are the same as the common mans-certainly not mine anyway, and it sounds like he was holding the bbc to ransom regarding his return to Gardners World. Awful reading really and sums it/him up.
  • This is the best news ever

Monty has always been the best presenter because you know he actually does the work and gets his hands dirty. And from his Observer writing background he proved his knowledge before presenting on TV. And he's just a bloody nice, knowledgeable, good, gardening guy. What more could we want?. michael (aka agardener)
  • Gardeners I've met have been a generous natured bunch - all these personal attacks including RdeT's beauty are really mean spirited. Welcome back Monty and good luck to Toby and Alys. We all have strengths and weaknesses and hoorah for our differences. Please leave the personal stuff - its really offensive.
  • I won't be tuning in to Gardeners World any more. Very disapointed with what has happened to it. Toby was a good presenter.
We are all entitiled to our opinions regarding who we prefer for a presenter as the programme is supposed to be for us-what we want & who we want, & as it is about to be aired it is clearly not what the public do want.
It's not personal stuff it's opinions & concerns being voiced on a public platform.
  • I agree with you althea on what we want and who we want but I do find the very personal comments on somebody's physical appearance irrelevant. The format of the programme is down to the producers but as to presenters its enough to say I prefer one person to another without being rude about their style, mannerisms or appearance. I'd prefer an open vote and a longer programme with less about what's coming up 'later' and more 'doing it now'
  • Started watching GW about two years ago and have been an avid fan since. However, really disapointed about how Toby has been treated. i thought his style was excllent -just cam across as such a nice chap, but with huge credibility in terms of horticultural knowledge. learnt so much from him. I don't think that i will get so much from the new series if i am honest and will reconsider my GW subscription. If Toby returns to our screens elsewhere i will make sure i watch it.
