  • I think the BBC needs a reality check on finance - how can they buy Greenacres AND do up Montys garden?
I suspect GW has run it's course - a tired format that needs ending soon. Obviously Monty has been returned to finish it off. I will die of boredom having to watch him so as far as I am concerned GW has already finished for good.
  • Could not believe that Toby has been let go for Monty. How stupid is that. I will not be watching again. May be the other bloggers are right. Time to ditch the programme.
Where has Toby gone? I hope we see him again soon - good guy, good gardener.
  • Two blogs? What is this? GW divide and rule? Sadly I agree with those who reckon GW is due for the chop. Toby was very good and I can only think that Monty will drag this out to the end and bore most people silly. MrBird and I will be giving it a miss as we both find Monty tedious and dull. Someone once said Monty could not hold a spade properly - well we both agree. He is just too dull and plodding.Toby was much more all embracing of all levels. We have gardened for over 45 years and are now going to give up GW as we resent being preached at by someone with very little skill but a great deal of pomposity.Thank goodness we shall get out in our greenhouses and give the show (for that is what it will be) a wide berth. The BBC is going to the dogs with this one.
  • Whilst I thought that Toby didn't have the weight to carry GW (after quiz and make-overs), I think the wrong man has been dropped - sorry but Joe Swift, to me, is the weakest of the three, so why not Monty Don leading with Toby as number 2. On the female front, all three, Rachel, Carol and Alys, have their pros and cons and could probably serve GW better by working in rotation and to their strengths (Rachel with the knowledge and presence to be the presenter that visits other gardens and shows, Carol with the guts and gung-ho takes on the hard graft and Alys, the researcher, brings in the new and unusual coupled with, perhaps, the Victorian garden approach). We'll give the new GW a try, as we always do, and reserve final judgement. Good Luck to All.
  • Would it not be possible with computer graphics to bring back Arthur Billett?
  • Why have the BBC spoilt Spring by taking away Toby and making sure I will have no GW to watch? Why Monty? So dull and boring.
  • Not Monty again. Who are these people who keep changing everything. Toby was excellent and what has happened to Greenacres? Toby had such good ideas and both he and Alys could appeal to the younger audience and wre qualified something I believe cannot be said for Monty
  • Mad idea bringing back a minor celeb who has less garden sense that the average allotment holder. Toby was really good - getting more like Geoff Hamilton all the time.Huge respect for them both.
No respect at all for the BBC doing this to a good bloke and treating the viewers with such contempt. One day we will know who is to blame and I hope they get shoved off quickly too. Shameful behaviour of the BBC and the production team.
  • So glad monty is back, Toby is a lovely chap and a great gardener, just could not get used to him. Shame Alan isn't coming back that would be the icing on the cake
  • I disagree with everything you say about Monty Don, he is not hands on! he is a journalist who previously saw a slot to fit in and now through viewing figure consious executives is being brought back?? Toby was a real gardener who connected with the same, Monty Don is just another presenter trying to fit in! Bring back Toby!!!!
