Having just read Toby's comment I would like to add that I was very pleased when he become presenter of GW. I used to watch him on a Westcountry TV gardening programme with his wife Lisa and have always found his style of presenting similar to Geoff Hamilton, practical, clear and reaching all abilities. His knowledge and skill and obvious experience was, I thought, ideal for the programme and I shall miss him and Alys. I hope he goes on to bigger and better programmes and that the BBC get rid of the GW Producer and decision team soon before they strangle the valuable and rare gardening icon of Gardeners World
Sorry Monty, but Tony is a real gardener, and Ive really enjoyed the programme since hes been the main presenter.I cant imagine why the BBC feels the need to change back.Tony will be missed.
So sorry that Tony B and Alys F are not going to be in the new series, I prefer their way of gardening. I felt that Monty D always laboured over anything he was getting across and spent more time with vegetables or laying grass, and I cannot think what Rachel D T can give to the program. Thank goodness we will still have Carol K to give us something inspiring.
I am so angry that the BBC can mess about like this. I thought it was part of their charter that they should educate. The current GW team did that. They are down to earth, informative and practical - everything you need in good gardening.I learned so much from Geoff Hamilton over his time on GW and he is still much missed. Toby is of a similar style and I have been watching GW again since he took over. I recall that Peter Seabrook said that Monty Don did not know how to use a spade and I agree with him. So why are we having him foisted on us instead of a real gardener? And as for Rachel DT - very ornamental but not all useful. I shall join the group of people who will not be able to watch GW until the BBC give us a real presenter. I will go out and garden my way rather than watch the dreadful MD.
Thank goodness Monty is back! I forced myself to watch Toby and Alice because I always looked forward to my friday night fix of Gardeners' World and I do enjoy watching Joe Swift but I got so sick of their silly teasing and side banter, which I have to say made Joe Swift sound like a stroppy teenager at times, that I stopped watching the programme long ago. Since Monty's departure and Carol's self exile Joe has appeared . He needs the guiding hands of experience to bring out the best in him and Carol and Monty did that. So bring it on and thankyou BBC for returning to a format that i know will focus on the gardening for the entire programme! If there is a genuine need for a programme that appeals to those who can't concentrate on serious gardening without regular breaks for silly banter then give them their own programme.
I am delighted by the move - I could never get to grips with Greenacre, it just seemed that money was being poured into it in bits and I couldn't see the whole picture. I was very disappointed that Berryfields was abandoned and we never found out what happened to the wildlife pond, after such efforts had been put in to get it right. What has happened to Joe's allotment? Did he give it up after the one year? Shall we ever find out? I would have liked Chris Beardshaw to take a role in the new series, he was the best after the much-loved Geoff Hamilton.
Excellent news. I really missed Monty found Toby a bit tedious. I stopped watching Gardeners World when Toby took over as presenter. I think Carol should have been given the job but she is a woman so it would never have happened. I will look look forward to the new season of programmes and will certainly be watching again.
It should be the producers being replaced...Monty had his time and just as we are getting use to greenacre (which i loved) and Toby was brilliant, this generations Alan Titchmarsh, bang goes the gun the gun of the the bloody idoits in the bbc. Why can't you leave things alone? When Alan took over people moaned..now look at him. I hope Toby goes to ITV or another channel and sets up a rivel to Gardener's world, cause I and all the horticultural socities of dorset will watch it. Its our money the BBC plays with and judging by the comments here they have made another cock up. Monty only last year condemed conventional gardening, and when he left Gardener's World last time he said it was a relief and would not work for the 'slave drivening BBC' again.
Very sad day for gardening on telly, Toby deserved better as he did what the BBC wanted when they changed the format and did what the viewers wanted when it did'nt work...I hope he sues the BBC.
About the use of the presenters garden, well we have not had this since Alan..Monty's time was spent in some one elses garden (how much did that cost??). At lest Greenacres was a garden just for the BBC, which could have had open days for viewers. Please remember that the first gardener's World was in a studio, so don't bash Toby about this..he did what his bosses told him to do.
Again I say sack the producers and give Toby his job back...he is the nations head gardener and always will be.
Watch for a Facebook page backing Toby and my compliant to the watchdog over this disgrace.
Well seeing how the BBC is changing things...I'll persent Gardener's World and save all the arguments.
My Name is Ken Fanner, and I am horticultural qualified (just finishing my degree next year, already hold NDH, NCH, City & Guilds etc). I am a family man with 5 kids, two at Uni, so understand the common man. I have attended a judging course and will be becoming a qualified judge next year. I have gardens at home and an allotment which is 40ft by 150ft with 3 8x6 and 1 12x8 greenhouse, a fruit cage 40x16 and for beds 40x16 which I rotate my veg on. I grow flowers, shrubs and fruit at home with my children.
I think I sound the right man for the job...so please get the BBC to email me at [email protected] to discuss my wages and conditions of employment.

GW was just great after the 'celebs' were ditched, and now the BBC's pandering as usual to the lowest common denominator and bringing Monty Don back.
For God's sake - why not Bruce Forsyth?
