I am very pleased that Monty will be returning to our screens and I have missed his passion and style of presenting. I am also very excited to be able to view his garden developments. What will happen to the site that the team have been developing over the previous years?
Carol has been her usual insprational self and her love and passion for her plants and garden has been a welcome tonic to wake me out of my winter slumber and get me back out to my allotment and begin the planning of my new garden in the new house sale which will be completed in time for spring - there is alot of work to do.
P.S. Carol you requested some Angelica gigas seeds from me when we spoke at Tatton last year so let me know where you would like me to send them - [email protected]
February is the month I renew my television licence. Sometimes I begrudge the expense, but this year it will be worth every penny because of the return of Monty to GW and also his long awaited programme on Italian gardens. So good to have you back, Monty.
Just heard the news about the 'new' presenters for GW. I have been watching GW since Percy's day, but won't bother if that Monty person is on again. How anyone can compare him to Blessed Geoff I don't know. Toby was really good at the job and I will miss him and Alys. Shame on you BBC.
I too have just heard of Monty's return and am delighted. I was begining to warm to Toby and Alys and hope that they can be brought back into the GW fold at some time in the future.
As with other tired old programmes they want to get rid of the BBC are giving GW one last failing gasp. Grasping at old straws is always what they do - hence Top of the Pops etc. The format is boring and putting back a previous presenter is an act of desparation. Time for GW to die and this is the death knell. I just hope that Toby gets the new programme once they give on on this sad old programme.
I have nothing against Monty, I am happy to hear that he's well again and will be returning to tv. However, I am disgusted by the way Alys and Toby have been treated. They just disappeared off the face of the earth, asif they haven't contributed significantly both to Gardeners World magazine and the BBC. Whatever your view is on how the programme should be presented, this is no way to treat people. Also, I think the BBC made a huge mistake letting Alys go. She appeals to a younger audience and more seasoned gardeners alike, and I honestly can't think of any reason to scrap her too.
Putting back a previous presenter is an act of desperation. Th GW production team have fouled it up and this programme is surely doomed to fail. It is time it was rethought and the BBC should get on with it before they divide the passionate gardeners even more. Give us a proper programme with Toby in charge and please do not let the public see the death throes of a much loved programme as it slides into programme oblivion.
We are delighted to hear of Monty's return to GW and are counting down the days to Friday, 11 March. Spring has even more of a special meaning this year!!
