Thanks for the info about Alan on ITV. I prefer Toby and Alys and have always been a loyal BBC viewer - except for Monty when I just switched off. I enjoyed Toby and Alys and watched again but will switch off or over to avoid watching monty. Gardeners deserve a gardener not a very uninspiring old amateur like him.
DearMr.Don, Well I,m very very pleased to sea you back on the screen this coming spring.I hope all is well for the moment and You are ready to get your hands dirty again. Can't wait to see the first glimps of you again. Also I'm delighted to see Ms.Rachel de Thame back on the screen.Keep well and until the first weeks of March. Friendly greatings, Guy Genbrugge from Ertvelde(East-Flanders) Belgium
Well that is just about it - we pay our licence fee so that monty don gets his garden done at our expense for the entertainment of Guy in Ertvelde. Absolutely brill.I know they make fantastic chocolates and good beer but they have poor taste in Brit gardeners.I have to pay my licence fee but I get no choice in who is put on my favourite programme. BBC GW have messed up big time.I have cancelled the magazine after I read montys offensive article (so smug) and I will not watch GW until they put proper agrdeners back instead of a pair of fancy frontmen who are not real trained gardeners. I hope Toby and Alys get a good job somewhere as they have been very badly treated by the untrustworthy GW team.
In a sense, I'm delighted that Monty Don's returning.
But only because it will give my wife and me 30 minutes extra time every week - not having the need to watch GW any more.
Watching MD trying to garden makes me almost physically sick, and the wife can't bear the man either. He was a disaster on the programme last time he fronted it, and bringing him back is a disgraceful piece of dumbing down by the BBC, who never gave Toby, Alys and the rest of the real GW team a chance.
I shall never watch GW again until that dreadful man is taken off air.
Toby and Alys did very wel, give them a different garden program. And I am very happy that Monty is healthy again. Carol is Great and Must stay! And how is it going with Joe's allotment? Every Friday night I take a beer turn the tv on GW and enjoy your wonderful program .Greetings from Holland.
Gardeners world needs to get back to its roots. It needs to be informative, educational, interesting, inspiring, and most of all on a budget we can afford. Some of the past projects have been well beyond ordinary peoples pockets. Remember most of us garden as a hobby, not as a way of life, and do not have unlimited funds. Also I think that all aspects of gardening should be presented on equal footings, not favouring one, eg organic, which is what is going to happen when monty takes over I am afraid. We should have the choice of which way we want to garden with the info we are given, but that will be difficult when it is one sided. If I wanted to be preached at I would go to church. As for bringing back Racheal de Theme, WHY!!shes not a gardener in the real sense, she presents at chelsea and thats about it,never seen her get her hands dirty, not like Carol Klein, now theres a good all round gardener whos not afraid to get down and dirty! Come on BBC get your act togeather, otherwise people will be voting with the OFF switch.
I am so pleased that Monty is coming back to Gardener's World. I loved Geoff Hamilton and Percy Thrower with their passion and down to earth speaking. An old fashion way which real gardeners love. They and Monty have a real passion that excites true gardeners and caters for more knowledgeable gardeners. I felt that the last series catered more for the very beginner. In the end I stopped watching the programme altogether. I will now come back to watch with delight!!!
I am really shocked to hear the news. i thought Greenacre would be our garden, belong to the viewers no matter who was presenting. I enjoy Monty, but also Toby, who showed good friendship with Joe. i looked forward to see how it developed. i know there were some things tried and stopped, but that is usual. hope to see Toby again soon. ps - really enjoyed his slot each month at the front of the GW mag - REALLY miss that.
The BBC have really messed this up. I can not stand Monty Don and will not be watching his smug grin ever. Toby was very good and should have been left to show his obvious expertise. Why do the BBC feel all gardeners desrve is a return to monty and his dull, dull programme. The issue over Greenacres is shameful when we are supposed to be economising. The very concept of monty getting his garden redone at licence payers expense is simply dreadful. It is fairly obvious that the BBC are just chasing bling and no longer follow their educational remit. I will not be watching but will go out and work in my greenhouse rather than suffer seeing monty back. i stopped watching him last time as he was just very boring. This time I will not even need to watch once. I have now given up the GW magazine too and subscribed to a real garden magazine instead. There is too much dumbing down on the BBC and this is the final straw for me.Back to the radio then - even the garden pictures are better there.
