  • What a big mistake, I started watching again after being put off by him before. I won't be watching it any more, I'm not interested in his pompous style. Very sad day for me.
  • I was so over the moon with enthusiasm when I heard of Monty's return along with Joe, Rachel and Carol. He is such a wonderfully easy to listen to presenter and so inspires me to get into my garden, I just can't wait for Saturday mornings to get out into my garden. Welcome back to my great inspiration!
  • Fabulous news,( that i just picked up on from the cover of Gardeners World Magazine).Welcome back big man. Under Monty, Gardeners World was inspirational gardening porn, under Toby it became gardening Teletubbies. At last I can watch it again.
  • I do hope that Toby is aware of the huge outpouring of dismay on this and other blogs about his departure. He has declared himself upset and humiliated by his sacking, and I am absolutely furious that the best presenter since Geoff Hamilton has been dropped. Monty Don is so wrong for Gardeners' World, far too wrapped up in his own interests and not a trained gardener. I have been gardening for years and years, and still learned a lot from Toby. It's so important too to have someone who can appeal to younger people who are new to gardening, so they get hooked, and Toby and Alys were both good at that. I very much doubt if I will watch in future - Monty's return is a retrograde step, and I feel so sad for Toby.
  • My partner and I are giving up Gw as we both feel that this is a bad move by the BBC We did not enjoy Monty before and we both thought Toby and Alys were a real delight. Only fools go backwards and we shall miss the show but find Monty very dull.
  • Shame Toby's gone and been replaced by Monty Don, couldn't take to him the first time round so don't think i'll be watching him this time. Alan Titmarsh was the best one i've ever watched and he's signed up for ITV, i know what i'll be watching on a friday night.
  • Absolutely delighted that Monty Don is returning to Gardeners' World. I will now be watching it again. For the last couple of years it has, unfortunately, been total rubbish!
  • Won't evar wotch agayn. Montiy is not good. Toby wos good.
  • Great shame Monty is coming back to Gardeners World. MUCH preferred Toby. Far more watchable than the 'oh so earnest' Monty.
  • I felt really sad when I heard that both Toby and Alys are to leave GW. I have grown to really enjoy GW since Toby took over, as I am a keen gardener (not a novice but far from an expert) and have implemented many things demonstrated on the programme in my own garden which I took on 2 years ago. I, like others above, will probably switch to ITV to watch Alan instead. I like Monty, but it's not the type of gardening I am interested in.
