I loved Toby and am really sad to see him go. I much prefered the last series where there was much more of a sense of fun. I liked the banter and also the fact that you could use the ideas in your own garden. Toby is much more a man for the common gardener like me. Monty tries to be so high and mighty - what was that series he did when he visited gardens around the world??? It was such a disappointment - he visited the Water Gardens in Agra during the dry season... I just find him too worthy - he's a bit self righteous. I also liked Alys - young and much more watchable than Carol who I fast forward through everytime I watch it on Sky Plus. Yet again the BBC listen to the old farts rather than try and do something new. How do they expect younger people to stick with them if they don't give the new format and team a decent crack at it?
Thank goodness for Monty's return. I have stopped watching gardeners world lately as it didn't seem to have any spark. I am sure Toby and his team are excellent gardeners but much prefer Monty's style. Agree with other comments about Alan though. He was brilliant.
Wonderful news! Love Monty's passionate and down to earth style, and it will be great to see him in his own garden. Somehow didn't quite work for me - using Greenacres instead of presenter's garden. Welcome back Monty.
can't believe the bbc are dumping Toby and Alys. as someone brought up with gardening and GW from the days of Clacks Farm and onward i am not a new/young/inexperienced gardener but still enjoyed Toby's everyman approach much more than Monty's - he always seemed to be so pleased with himself and just didn't inspire me. I also agree with those who are considering the waste of money setting up the Greenacres site and then decamping to Monty's place. How much will this all cost??
I am so sad Toby and Alys have been dismissed! We will have Monty, endlessly rearranging his perenials. Rachel De Thame should be presenting a fashion show. The new show will only be worth watching for Carol. I will have to record the programe and fast forward out the rubbish.
Oh no not Monty Don again, I realy liked Toby's down to earth and friendly style, and Alys had some very interesting ideas.I think I will be giving the new series a miss.

At last. Sense prevails, can't wait.
