  • Monty returns. Best news I've heard for a long while. Friday nights will be worth staying in for again. Roll on March.
  • Worst news about the garden I have had all winter. As if the freezing weather and probably losing half my plants was not bad enough the bbc go and take away Alys and Toby and replace them with the dull, dreary Monty. Not much for me to look forward to. Well at least I will not have to turn on GW any more as it will be too boring to watch. Over to you you dullards.
  • Disgusted at the BBC in getting rid of Alys and Toby they are real gardeners who showed you what to do from the basics to the advanced and showed you you how to garden from cultivating to sowing seeds, not just going to the garden centre and spending a fortune. Monty doesnt know how to get his hands dirty. Why have they spoilt a good set up. Give Monty another show and send him off again touring the world with our licence fee rather than spoil a good show
  • Is there a BBC garden mafia that have just got Monty back to put real gardeners off the programme? Hope ITV snap Toby up and put on a real gardeners programme as the BBC have forgotten how it should be done. And I hope he gets paid more too as Monty has had enough of my licence fee to squander on his garden and to swan rund the world at our expense. Can I get a rebate to spend on my garden?
  • Very sad to hear Monty Don is returning. My husband and I watched every program of GW from when we got our first house in 1986 until the first time Monty became presenter, then we lost interest and only watched sporadically. We enjoyed Toby's style and felt he was friendly and seemed to cover the basics and much more.
We feel Monty is too boring, unfriendly and everything seems to have to be about him and there are no interesting projects that are suitable for the "average" gardener. It seems to be "his way or no way". Well there are 2 viewers who say NO WAY!
  • SAd news and very boring. Why have they put that bore back. He is a selfcentred, self gratifying, self satisfied bore on every level. Toby was just spot on for all levels. He had knowledge and skill. All Monty has is himself and copious boring stuff and he gardens at our expense. What is going to happen to the wonderful plots at Greenacres that were so right for normal gardens? I will not watch him as I have no desire to die of boredom when he comes back.

"Monty doesnt know how to get his hands dirty".

You must be having a laff!!!!
  • Like many others, I'm disappointed that Toby Buckland will no longer be presenting GW. With him running the show, I was watching the programme every week; he was a good teacher and I felt I learnt something each show.

Monty Don is a good guy but I fear I'll be switching off again until he's replaced as there's so little substance to what he's done in past shows.

Toby Buckland was in the mould of Geoff Hamilton and Alan Titchmarsh - real gardeners.

    As for Rachel ....
  • I'm delighted Monty Don's returning to GW; I'll be returning too!
  • Not impressed at the news. As far as I'm concerned GW died when Alan Titchmarsh walked through his gate some seven or eight years ago and left the programme. The last presenters did a good job and appealed to the younger viewers this is a step backwards. One sure way for me to activate the off switch on the TV on Friday nights in the future. Fortunately Alan is seen on TV regularly and gardening is still his passion which he shares with us. He lives close to my home so we still see him around thank goodness. The BBC needs to think of the next generation of gardeners not the die hards who can't go with progress.
