  • thrilled that mr don is returned. To have considerer toby as a substiute shows the all the production as total incompetend fools.I suggest that the entire existing production & presenting team are sacked except for Alice.Gardening has change in the last decade,& now we request real talented, creative people,to present what is such an influential programme,& not reduce it to daytime TV.I am in hope that the production are the equal to Montaque.
  • posted the comment at 7.50 as above.
  • This is a shabby way for the BBC to treat presenters. While I am glad that Monty is well enough to return, I found that I did not enjoy the show as much with him at the helm, it became elitist and worthy. Initially I did not like Toby in charge, but that was more to production than anything. However, unlike a lot of Toby critics who stopped watching it during the Toby period (so how would they know if he was any good) I stuck with him and he's really engaging. After Alan left, I had hoped for Chris Beardshaw. The ideal line up would be Chris, Bob Flowerdew, Pippa Greenwood and Alys. Like other posters, I'd be happy to watch two quite different types of gardening programmes, just nothing gimmicky.
  • I'm delighted that Monty's back - I'll start watching Gardeners' world again. There was nothing wrong with Toby as a presenter but the producers insisted on dumbing down the content. They ended up constantly justifying their decision in the magazine and pretending that the viewers loved it. Well the viewing figures told a different story and at last they've admitted it. GW used to be so aspirational and inspirational - I'm sure it will be again. Can't wait!
  • What aload of animal manure!!!!BRING BACK TOBY AND CHEAP ALICE.NO WONDER THE LICENCE FEE COSTS SO MUCH!MAD MONTY FROM HIS OWN GARDEN---APPALLING WASTE OF SPACE AND CREATIVE TIME-----OR--HOW TO GET THE GARDEN DONE AT OTHER PEOPLES EXPENSE!
  • i am glag monty is back.fit and well.to take the helm again.hi missed don on the show.steve all the best.
  • WOW this is unexpected and fab news-amidst all the snow this has brightened the week. I am really looking forward to seeing Monty back-GREAT decision.
Also great that it will be from his garden.
I think Carole, Joe, and Rachel will be a great combo. Can we please stop writing Rachel off as just `eye Candy`. She has knowledge and a calm approach and happens to be attractive-it`s not impossible to be an attractive gardener !

I agree with many previous comments re space for more than one style of gardening programme.

thank you BBC -a great christmas present.
  • I thought Toby was very practical, down to earth and with much more 'ordinary gardener appeal'as a presenter than Monty Don.I think it was the format of the show that was wrong and at times boring.Carol was wasted, Alys was awful and Joe not used enough.I think the idea of an 'own garden' is good, but I really think Toby should have been kept as lead presenter.
  • will it be veg,veg and more veg? hope not. not thrilled with rachel,no knowledge, how did she get into gardening anyway.how much have we paid and lost for greenacres.carol should have had the programme in the first place after monty and still she,s passed over.not sure how g.world will pan out. didn,t like toby,s reign
  • I am so glad that Monty is coming back to gardeners world. I can swich back on now.
