As it's neither raining or freezing here today I have been to the GC for compost and sown some seeds indoors - Calendula, Cosmos, Lobelia and Nicotiana.
May go out and do some mulching when I've finished my coffee.
I've been out cutting back dead stuff, digging out those grassy weed alliums and wandering lamium, and popping in some pots of narcissus. It's a pleasure to be able to dig in nice moist soil without it crumbling back into the hole like the dry sand at the top of a beach. Fingers crossed for enough rain through the spring and summer this year!
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I bought 4 bags gravel and a waterbutt connection kit in our local GC this morning but it then rained so the gravel is still in the boot. After lunch, pegged down the old Terram where it had started to lift in my new Potting Table area. Got rained off again so gave up. OH is busy shredding all the apple tree prunings so I've left him to it.
I finally managed to get some weeding done today - probably the most weeding I have had to do in years, and loads of moss growing on top of the soil in the borders. I blame clay soil and one of the wettest winters I've known in the north west... Nice to get out though and make a start!
I've been weeding and mulching in between the rainy days. Easiest to show by posting photos. This is in OH's garden in Norfolk. I'll get back to mine in France in March.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Removed a very old but lovely archway. Will try and use some of the wood again in a different place. Harvested some more leeks and beetroot. Picked primrose flowers for the first wine 2024.
Yesterday I felt like rubbish so "wasted" a glorious gardening day doing almost nowt. Managed to get a load of washing dry outside. Today is horrible, foggy and wet. Everywhere is so wet and soggy that there is no incentive to go out and get gardening. I have moved my pan of iris reticulata to where I can see it from the house. I Found a potted azalea tucked away, in full flower bud, I have always thought it rather gaudy, not my choice, given by a friend for Christmas. I thought it was a hothouse one, bright pink and white petals. I also thought it would be killed off being left outside but it has survived for several years, flowering each year and cocking a snook at me. Ya boo, see!
Why on earth did the previous owner of this bungalow, put in a brick path that stopped about 18 inches from the patio, with a shrub planted in the gap? I've removed the shrub, and laid the remainder of the path, to provide logical access. Wife is happy.

Now that I've finished moving my Potting Table and tidying that area, I can start moving some plants, replanting and weeding when the weather permits.
