Geum 'Banana Daiquiri', a rather apt name.. with the blue Glandora 'Grace Ward'.. The Geum offers a little repeat later but mainly Spring flowering.. good foliage mounds. 'Grace Ward'.. formerly Lithodora.. is best in Spring but I have found with this one that it continues to flower on and off for about 8 or 9 months, I've had 40 flowers open in January.. evergreen, trailing, looks good overflowing a low wall.. Phaseolus vulgaris 'Blauhilde'.. climbing French Bean, which I also use as an ornamental.. The purple pods are about 10'', stringless and delicious when cooked, turning a dark green. I find it fun to grow with pink climbing roses as I leave on some of the pods.. ..pretty flowers too.. Tulip 'Lady Jane' is persistent and it's the only Tulip I have in the ground.. Lovely with Brunnera 'Jack Frost' .. ..such lovely flowers.. and the thin stems quickly disappear when over.. Hydrangea 'Libelle' brightens up a shady corner, and I just love this Lacecap..
Sedum 'Matrona', big, bold and fleshy, purple stems, flops somewhat.. however, I prefer 'Autumn Joy'..
Aulomyrcia laruotteana var. paraguayensis.. a grand name for a Myrtle, this seems to flower both in Spring and late summer, purple berries follow.. a little tender.. ..splayed out like Peacock feathers, this is a favourite Lavender.. I love the graceful habit of this plant.. Lavender x intermedia 'Gros Bleu'.. easy from cuttings.. highly fragrant..
I like most of your selections @Marlorena, thanks so much for posting them - a lovely cheer up on a cold overcast day. I particularly like the helianthemum Ben Ledi and the blue salvia, might have room for those if I can get hold of them. My myrtle's suffering - didn't like the drought last year but I'm hoping it will survive this winter. It's quite old now.
Thanks so much again for comments... and interest..
After last night's -6c here, my tender plants are still alive, including this one.. Ozothamnus rosmarinifolius 'Silver Jubilee'.. or Sea Rosemary, although part of the Aster family... an Australian native.. Dianella tasmanica 'Tas Red'.. an evergreen, has reddish tints in winter, strange blue flowers in Spring with yellow stamens, then blue berries.. Phormium like leaves, but much smaller and neater.. perhaps 2 feet when mature.. spreads at the root..
Anemone 'Honorine Jobert'.. 5 feet tall and a late summer highlight.. however, I got 3 plants of this, one of which has turned out to be a dwarf.. seen at the bottom of pic.. .this is the dwarf plant.. just 2 feet tall.. I'm not aware of a dwarf version of this being in commerce, so I'm keeping my eyes on it. It does not appear to spread at the roots like the others either.. not so far.. I'm growing it on separately now..it appears identical otherwise.. Griselinia littoralis 'Bantry Bay'.. survived many winters here unscathed and offers a bright variegation.. some signs of reversion occasionally.. I find this a better colour than on the usual 'variegata' which tends to look rather washed out.. Erigeron karvinskianus.. another 'weed' for me which I've been trying to remove for years.. never plant near a gravel driveway.. looks lovely in the gardens of others, but unwanted here I'm afraid.. Helianthemum 'Lawrenson's Pink'.. sprawly yet a good colour.. I like the central contrasts.. Berberis 'Bagatelle'.. I have several of these beautiful foliage shrubs for frontal positions.. Pittosporum 'Tom Thumb'.. I have 2 of these rather lovely rounded small shrubs.. all come through my winters without trouble and they've been here many years now.. I trim back hard in Spring, as they do not produce flowers.. ..simple Lychnis coronaria, which seeds, and so I've always got some.. here with Scabious 'Perfecta Blue' and Penstemon 'Westminster Belle'..
You've got some fine plants Marlorena, cheers me up up on a winters day when nothing can be done outside . If you don't mind me asking how big is your garden ?
@Perki thank you !.. it's not very big really, photos are perhaps deceptive but it's simply 3 sides to a bungalow, a long front, a long back with good depth, and a side garden.. the 4th side is for the car. Kind of horseshoe shaped.. I have a fair bit of scope and different conditions in each part, which makes things interesting for me. I love a sweeping lawn but none here..
Change is important and I swop things out frequently. There's never enough room for all that we want, is there? ..
