Afternoon @Pat E Very little rain has fallen here too, we are in desperate need for some decent rain. Hope the Melbourne storm doesn't have too many consequences. I will ask my friend who lives there - who, by the way, after blood tests, has returned to her oncologist to find that she will need chemotherapy treatment as the cancer has returned. She was operated and cleared in December last year. Bummer of a damned disease!!
Autumn colds are inevitable @coccinella and @punkdoc - hot toddies are just the thing to relieve!! I hope you feel better soon. (After the third one, things start looking up!!) The leaves are turning and falling here @Lizzie27 the vineyards are turning a lovely shade of red and yellow. Rather a brief stay in France this time @Busy-Lizzie Are you flying back to Blighty?
Sunny and crisp this morning. Swiss Ball lesson this morning and some intensive gardening this afternoon. I am slowly getting the garden wintered. We have a high most days of 18°C when there is sunshine, but it is still quite mild here. The trailer is full already and I need to long prune the vines before they get their annual hard prune in January. It is a satisfying job but with a bung knee and hip, I pay for it later - anyway I'm belted well in with a lumbar belt and knee support.
Any Ernests around? A la Saint Ernest, abats les pommes qui te restent.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ it appears to have been dry overnight and there’s no clouds in the sky this morning … the oak trees on the rise are glowing beautiful shades of holden bronze in the morning sun.
Sorry about your friend’s news @tui … a bummer indeed 😠 hope they can sort this out for her.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We fly back to England on Friday. OH will only have 5 days Schengen/Brexit allowance by then. He will be able to come back to France in January because June's visit won't be counted by then. 90 days in each 180 days. He's thinking of applying for a 6 month Visa, then he will be freer to choose when he can come to France.
More rain forecast for this afternoon. Dordogne is on an orange flood alert.
I think I'll get my flu jab today. Covid isn't due yet. It must have worked because I didn't catch Covid from OH when he had it a few weeks ago.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all, bright and sunny this morning. We've decided that as it's OH's birthday we'll have a day out, dropping off the stuff I've got for the charity shop on the way - need to clear the dining room table! Looking through a box full of my late mum's papers, I re-found some commemorative programmes for 'V' Day 8th June 1946, Coronation 2nd June 1953 and the last Open Day at HMS Royal Arthur 19th Sept 1992 at Corsham, Wilts. The late Duke of Edinburgh was stationed there but I'm not sure when. I went to a dance there once in my teens which was quite exciting at the time - all those young sailors! I am thinking of taking the Programmes into either the local Tourist Information Centre or the Library in Corsham later today perhaps.
A visa might make sense for your OH @Busy-Lizzie, good luck with the flu jab.
Very sorry to hear about your friend @tui34, hope she recovers.
Morning all. Have read back the past couple of days and note that there have been no major disasters and everyone seems to be managing just about OK.
I did a craft fair on Sunday which went rather well, so that turned out OK, despite my rubbish Saturday. I needed to sort through all the jewellery I was taking, polishing the silver, adding missing tags etc. But it was one of those days where everything seemed to be conspiring against me. It was like my whole being was surrounded by invisible scribble that knocked things over, caused things not to work, caused me to drop things, then drop them again... Topped off after my relaxing shower before bed by a handle on the shower dropping off, my reaching to pick it up and reaffix it wearing my freshly laundered nightie brushing against the shower curtain and having to get in bed with a wet arm.
But yesterday was pleasant - I sat darning the jumpers that needed darning whilst listening to a Danny Robbins ghost podcast series before we went to my daughter's for a birthday supper for my youngest granddaughter. Daughter did her famous lime cheesecake which was, as always, delicious.
Bright and sunny for once. I have begun to wear my thermals this week, and have also put another blanket on the bed.
Outside, my rudbeckia are still doing their thing, which is a source of much happiness for me. Meanwhile inside, the chrysanthemums and a primrose are flowering again, having already flowered in Spring (I suppose the primrose should really be outside, but I just never got round to moving it).
As didyw has noted, the news from the lives of the good people on here does (broadly) seem to be getting better, and this is very pleasing indeed.
Sorry to hear of your friend's terrible news @tui34 Hope that your recovery continues apace @coccinella

I am sorry to hear about your friend @tui34. It is devastating to go through all that again but I hope she has good support from family and friends.
Sorry too about the day counting @Busy-Lizzie. It has made life difficult for people with family in the UK or Europe.
Thank you all for the kind wishes, yes am better and with a sprightlyer mojo too. I joined a free online course about biodiversity, I hope it gives me the tools to fight the ignorance in these parts regarding stuff like Japanese Knotweed for example. I hope it isn't true but someone told me you can even buy it in France. It's only a freebie course but it might be good.
Vines have been long pruned quite a way back. I'm sure paying for it now as I can't even feel my leg for the bits steel that are piercing my buttock, groin and knee. An anti inflammatory and a strong pain killer before bed tonight - but sigh - a good job done!
I've had my flu jab, been to the Red Cross with all my old jeans that I can't fit into anymore, bought 2 picture frames so that I can add photos of 2nd OH and me to the landing gallery and collected my Identity Card from the Mairie.
I tried sweeping the patio of leaves during a sunny period this afternoon, but the patio and leaves are so wet it was quite difficult. Then it started raining again.

The pergola
Plus 3 other vines. Thursday will be pulling up the last of the tomato, aubergine and pepper plants. Tomorrow rest day for me.
