I still have half a wardrobe of really good quality clothing that I can’t bear to part with because I might just fit into them again ‘one day’. Since fashions all come around again, maybe I could be a really trendy dude once more, doddering down to the local bar in my natty suits? Or is it time to move beyond wishful thinking?

They never come back quite the same and you're unlikely to lose a load of weight unless you're ill. If you're ill, you won't be in the mood for fishing out old clothes. That's the theory @Nollie
Interesting thought re the amateur dramatic societies being able to use ‘vintage’ clothing. A set designer told me that they used to rent all the furniture and odds and ends for period settings. I wonder if there is a market somewhere for our hoarded old but decent clothes? A friend donated some vintage luggage which had belonged to an elderly relative, it took pride of place at a heritage railway station.
Have some of you been inspired by this thread or have you been doing it anyway?
I'm forever reading and thinking about decluttering because I'm naturally messy and tend to collect stuff that I don't really care about. Somehow getting rid of it is the biggest barrier! I don't have a car so I find it a bit of a logistical challenge to take things to charity shops etc.
I haven't taken any of my clutter to charity shops, they have called and collected it from my house. I have sent things to 3 different charities not just one. They all have vans to collect large items, the local Air Sea Rescue Group took my big sofa.
I also have a problem parting with "special" cards. A lot I have cut the fronts off and made into new cards but some are still intact. Often people put out requests for old Christmas cards, I assume to make new ones. I have yet to try selling vintage clothes online, I have an almost new gents Burberry trench coat, still in the dry cleaners bag, valued at £45.00 the last time I looked on a vintage website. It seemed wrong to just give it away. I also have a bottle of perfume, unopened, in its box from the 80's. I found just an empty bottle selling for £35.00 online!
It was really hard when I moved house because it was during the Covid pandemic so all the charity places were shut and the local advertising site for selling stuff said it couldn't do it during Covid. I was downsizing. At least my 4 children took things and the rest of the unwanted stuff had to go in the skip.
