We’ve had a lot of rain, but not flooding because we’re high up on a gentle slope. Plenty of trees still in leaf though, so that’s our worry. Just been out on the fortnightly food foray, and seen quite a few people shovelling muck out of their front doors. Also roads in a mess with debris left behind by flood waters, and it’s only Tuesday. Best of luck everyone.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.
No flooding here as we're a few metres above the nearby Marais Poitevin levels but there's been some serious wind damage along the coast already and that combined with the spring todes has re-arranged the sandy beaches and their dunes. Worse to come too.
Oddly, most of the trees here are still green so liquidambars have been turning glorious shades for a few weeks now and our wisterias still have a full "head of hair".
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I cannot decide whether to move hanging baskets and light weight potted plants to the lee of where the wind is likely to come from (SW corner of garden) or to the NE exposed part, where the wind may well blow stuff towards anyway.
Any ideas please?
I still have hanging baskets to take down - I left it a bit late.
Hope everyone is safe!

We are as prepared as we can be - shutters shut, phones charging, I've even got lunch sorted for tomorrow in case we have a power cut - but I'm worried for my new greenhouse. We had up to 80km/h winds the other day and it didn't bat an eyelid but we are expecting 110km/h tomorrow.
But I know others are in for worse. Thinking of everyone in Ciaran's path.
That is good you remembered to charge phones etc! I did that and charged a power bank just in case. Cold food if the power goes...I hope your greenhouse is ok, @NormandyLiz, - it is difficult to predict what could happen. I will be shutting the windows soon...

Did you move your pots and hanging baskets @clematisdorset? I would if it's not too late/difficult. It's always a shame to regret not having done something like that.
I've moved my cuttings' shelf out of the wind. They're doing well and I'm so proud of them, I'd be gutted to loose them.
Thanks @NormandyLiz, no, not yet - still debating where to put them! I think the garden will be a mess tomorrow. Really hope the roof tiles will be ok...
Glad you have moved your cuttings, hopefully they will be sheltered. I am going to take the hanging baskets down and move some of the pots I think - quite windy already.

Once again in the storm naming season the metropolis of Northampton sitting in no mans land gets away with no more than a breeze and light rain which would be considered in years gone by as mild Autumnal weather, no doubt in the coming weeks and months one of these named storms will find us out but as yet we have got off without so much as a scratch.
