The video footage of that forest floor moving is quite extraordinary @pansyface. Never known anything like that in my life. And very scary!

I remember seeing the aftermath of that happening during the ‘87 storm .., when whole rows of trees were blown over complete with their roots and the ground they were in. Large areas of trees  flat on the ground with swathes of forest floor at right angles to where it had been.

Just to show how lightly we got of in my part of the country, I went to the allotment today and although I knew that the ground would be too wet to dig I did however dig a few big weeds out of an area that I had left to its own devices and although the first two inches of soil was very wet under that it was quite dry and the soil shook off the roots easily.

Is this going to be bad?
The Met Office forecast says that the south coast will get the worst of it but elsewhere doesn't look too bad.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

My pals at patchwork were muttering today about storms with English names set to wreak havoc on Wednesday night.

Had to tell them it's Irish but now I'm home I've checked the forecast and this far south we're expecting winds of 90mph in the dead of night - always worse when you can't see what's going on I feel and not good for the nocturnal critters either.   All the rain will be welcome here tho.

  • It is worse at night, @Obelixx with things rattling around as well. Hopefully the rain will be plentiful though. Yikes...
