Named Storms!

This is the second named storm in as many weeks and yet here in Northampton there's hardly a breeze and some light drizzle this was the same during the last named storm. For those who don't know where Northampton Northamptonshire is located we are just south of the Midlands, west of East Anglia, east of the West Country and north of the South of England basically in no mans land. I see that Ireland and Scotland are getting the worst of the storm the same as they did the last time but we have got off without a scratch.

It's been hammering it down up here, and the trees are taking a proper battering. I don't think there will be a leaf left on a tree when this ends. The worst is yet to come with monsoon rains forecast from 6pm today until noon tomorrow.

Are you in the red area @Balgay.Hill, or are you 'just' dealing with the amber alert?
The problem is the already saturated ground after the last lot. I was reading earlier that one area had just finished dealing with the clear up from S. Arwen - just in time for this one. Hopefully it won't be 16 million trees this time.  :|

    N. east is getting the worst of it without doubt. I had to laugh at them giving us a yellow warning here where I am. The forecasted rain/wind was no worse than lots of days at this time of year.

Same here @pansyface , we're in The North East, but it  seems to have swept by us . However, 20 odd miles further North from here, where son loves, it hit quite badly in the night. slept them awake.

I'm same as you @pansyface, it rained heavily before I went to bed last night, but woke up to calm. We have had a light shower or two, but its warm and humid and I've done my patio pots with bulbs.

we had a LOT of rain yesterday and it was very windy. Today it's sudden very heavy showers every half an hour or so, but not as windy.

I heard they're evacuating at least one village in the 'red zone' - thinking it may be cut off by floods, I suppose.

We've been in the red zone twice since they invented them - once for snow a few years ago and then for wind more recently. Both times it was pretty bad. The first one we were snowed in for about a week and the second we lost power for three days, so it was useful both times to have had the warnings so we could prepare

@Fairygirl I'm in the red zone, but on higher ground so no chance of flooding. It has been dark all day, and the rain hasn't let up. Folk near rivers will probably have a sleepless night.

I wasn't sure how near you were @Balgay.Hill. It's when being on a hill is very, very useful. We're the same - and the houses are all elevated too.
The 'dry' side of Scotland has had the brunt this year, without doubt, hence the recent devastation to crops in Angus/Perthshire - the main grain/crop growing region up here.

There was a farmer [in Angus] on Landward recently talking about how wet July had been there. They'd had 90mm of rain. We had over 140mm here. Even last year, which was the driest/hottest on record on this side, we had almost 80mm. It just shows how different conditions can be, within a relatively short distance.

There are quite a few big trees down already, and some drivers have had near misses The trees are not used to high winds from the east, as the prevailing winds are from the south west. I think daylight tomorrow will show a lot of damage.
